***Rugby Super League XXV***

Yeah, so that went poorly for Trinity to be honest...

'Quelle victoire' indeed. Sam Tomkins got MotM, now top of the league by dint of PD (damned near unheard of!), and I think I'm right in saying that's the largest ever SL win away from Brutus for les Dracs.

Warrington can go top later, but I think they have to absolutely wallop Huddersfield to do so.

When this team is on form, they are one of the best (maybe the best?) at keeping the ball alive.

Les Dracs finally playing back at Brutus today, facing Wigan :)

The squad:

Sam Tomkins back from suspension. But we're without Josh Drinkwater, Tom Davies, Micky McIlorum, David Mead and Sam Moa. Still, it should be a reasonably strong side.

We don't have the best record against Wigan, to be honest. 9 wins and a draw in 37 games, in spite of beating them in our very first Super League match all the way back in '06! In the last five meetings, the only one les Dracs won was the Camp Nou fixture. But, with all due respect to @TonyM19, I'm rather hoping for good things today.

Meanwhile, now that the table this season is to be based on win percentage just in case all the fixtures can't be gotten in under the wire:

We're top again baby!!!!! A win today, and it'll really start making the job of the chasing pack a bit harder. We're really going to have to start getting some fixtures played, mind.

Two wins on the bounce. One against a young Leeds side, who played really well. One against Wakefield, who were nothing special.

Got another four (I think?) home matches now. About bloody time given how much CEO Guasch has had to spend on chartered flights to get the boys over to England...

Some moves today.

End of regular season reworked (St Helens vs les Dracs is off, so Saints don't have to travel), play-offs reworked, KR ending their season (so why do they get to stay in SL when Wolfpack were thrown out? Enquiring minds would like to know!)...

Sean O'Loughlin to retire at the end of the season. Not the force he was 2 years ago (when he could single handedly turn games at all levels), but nailed on for the Wigan Hall of Fame. Just wish he could bow out in front of a crowd.

Agreed.

What happens if Hull FC have issues with Covid this week? Do Warrington get reinstated? What if it happens to Wigan? Do Hull go straight to the GF?

All good questions. Wish I had some answers!

Catalans 12-0 Leeds as I type this. It's frenetic stuff though, proper end-to-end.

18-6 after 36 minutes.

***edit 2***

26-14 FT  Next up, St Helens.

Catalans pack looked good - they all looked areal handful. Whitely is very underrated. Sam Tomkins was the gamebreaker in the first half. He can't be far off an England recall.

Sam is a joy to watch when he's in this kind of form. Actually, the whole team is. Mead was excellent. Davies was excellent. McIlorum's kicking game was on-point. But discipline let us down a bit in the second half, and...

I think McIlorum and Joel Tomkins might be having a few anxious days before Tuesday's disciplinary meetings.

...this.

Dwyer was having an impact at the start of the second half until McIlorum gave him a tickle. Old school :)

That one bothered me a bit less than the silly high tackles that les Dracs kept giving away penalties for through the middle of the second half :) Oh, and I rather enjoyed Mikołaj Olędzki getting minced by Sam Kasiano when Mik completely misjudged a tackle and got the full force of Big Sam so hard that his ancestors felt it :p

Credit to Leeds though, they were a bit rocked to be 18-0 down but came back strong. They were a bit unlucky to be that far down in the first half hour, it was frantic high-pace rugby that could easily have got them some points if the Catalan defence had slipped up or Leeds had gotten a bit more luck with a bounce - as I like to point out to friends in the Perpignan area, la balle n'est pas ronde, c'est comme ça! *miming a rugby ball shape with my hands* :D Doesn't take very much for things to turn in your favour/go wildly against you.

Super League's short highlights:

That start with the break from Sam Tomkins  That 4th try from Mead :eek: That penalty kick at distance from McIlorum
