Hey all, have sky fibre coming in @ approx 400-500mb when doing speedtest through wifi near the router, other areas are approx 30-40 due to distance so decieded to add some AP;s

Now have set it all up and its done via the following

SKy router - Patch Lead to TP-Link TL-SF1016DS (Normal Switch) - Patch Lead to MERCUSYS MS108GP (POE Switch) - Connected to 2 x Ap's

Also as above fom the normal swtich there is a wire to an oubuilding 4 way poe swtich which also has 1 x AP connected

Thing is im only getting approx 90mb out of each ap. Any idea plz

Thanks

TP-Link TL-SF1016DS is a 100 Mbps switch, which explains why you are only getting 90 Mbps (overheads).

You need a Gigabit switch, for example: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tp-l...01000m-rj45-ports-plastic-case-nw-174-tp.html

Or cable directly to the PoE switch.
Literally I was thinking bypass switch and go direct from router to poe
Only strange thing is on the ruijie app it shows 2 x ap (Indoors ones) under ethernet status:

Lan: rate 100m

But the outbuilding a.p says

LAN: rate 1000m

Even though outdoor poe switch is also coming off off the normal switch for internet

The APs are reporting the physical link speed, nothing more. One is plugged into a 100Mbps switch (or there's a cabling fault), the other is plugged into a 1000Mbps switch, and they are reporting accordingly.

But it cant be, as the 2nd poe is getting internet from the normal switch?

And the main 8 way poe i also getting internet fom the same switch
The APs can only see the link speed to the switch it's directly connected to. It has no idea the connection from that switch to the other is a different speed.

Considering you haven't put a model number in your post, it's impossible to tell. I recommend you draw out a topology and label it so people are able to help.

The Mercusys MS108GP is gigabit: https://www.mercusys.com/uk/product/details/ms108gp/

As another commentor has mentioned before the TP-Link is only 100mb.

So it basically goes like this:

Sky router <- 100mb -> TP-Link <- 100mb -> Mercusys <- 1gb -> AP

The TP-Link is the one holding everything back.
I totally get that bit, but if the TP Link is THEN going to both Mercusys (4 and 8 port) shouldnt everything connected to them also get 100mb max? Or at least show that?

As i have said im going to connect both Mercsuys to the router and then see the speed shoot up lol

Doesn't matter what the TP-Link connects to, as long as it's in the middle of the link, it'll limit speeds to 100mb.

Yes, connecting the Mercusys to the router directly will bypass the TP-Link and should be 1gb.

No connected devices will always show the full speed they are connected at - just because the uplink to that switch is 100Mb doesn't affect the individual device connection speed.
(E.g. 2 PCs on the same Mercusys switch can still talk to each other e.g. copying files at 1Gb - it's only when they have to traverse through the TPLink that they would be bottlenecked to 100Mbps)
