Rules on tipping?

Despite working in the customer service/catering industry myself, I do agree that tips should only be given for outstanding service. Different people have different ideas of outstanding service, but I think its a good "rule" to follow nonetheless.

It encourages the staff to push standards, which i believe is the only way to progress :)

Only tip for exceptional service and I mean exceptional with a big "E".

That's my plan. So far they just seem to be trying to get money out of me. You know? The odd pause here and there.

I don't understand why it's such a big deal to be called "sir"? I'd expect it in a restaurant or a hotel or by a member of civil services.

As for tipping, if something is worthy of a tip, tip, if not then don't.

Normally the only people who call me Sir is the police :/ :p

Being the Gypo of the forum I came here to advice about Tipping as in Dumping :o + :D + :p
I'm a bit stumped now as the only time I go in posh hotels is to rob them of antiquity's, Serves them right for the No Gypsy signs I say, Y Yi diddly I chavvy aye boy :D

Don't tip, unless it's outstanding service. I will tip if I get outstanding service. As it's much better experience than having rubbish service. Unfortunately to many people tip regardless and as such, we have rubbish service in the uk.

I wouldn't tip in a hotel. Unless it is a proper restaurant.

its freakin rude when they add it to the bill as "service included"

If it's not on the menu then you can refuse to pay it..

If it is on signs or in the menu. Then it's properly advertised and as such you have to pay it. Or that's my understanding.

I hate it when the waiter/waitress writes a note on the receipt like thank you or something.
