Rumor: Windows 8 to play Xbox 360 games

So I can pop a 360 disc into the pc with windows 8 on it and it will play?

Or does it play 360 games as in, download a digital copy?

Neither.

From what I can gather, it's just a rebranding of Games for Windows Live to Xbox Live and rather than have it on a per-game basis, it's integrated into the operating system so any game can make use of the features like achievements, cross-game chat, etc. if the devs use the API.

Ok so ive searched and search the forums and nothings come up, so i apologize if its already been posted.

but this has been running on my mind since its been said.

What do you guys think? personally i'd love it! Obviously not to replace my pc for gaming, i still love gaming on that. but to be able to play xbox games on the pc just seems a win win idea for M$. Obviously they would have to step up the security, but really i think its a great idea.

good, p2p^10

Live has always been a single connected system regardless of it being branded as "Xbox" or "GWF". Since the addition of PC games you've always had a login that would work on either PC or Xbox regardless of where you registered it.

Ok then they moved Games for WINDOWS Marketplace to Xbox, and my GfWL login window opened from xbox.com.

This backhandedness from the company that promised a new push in PC gaming... bollards..

Dear me. They merged the broken and outdated GFWL site, into the newly redone and far better Xbox site. And that's enough to cause a strop?

All the Live functionality/game experience hasn't changed, all the content is still available and through a much better site design, but because you log into one domain instead of another you're outraged? Wow...

There is no way Microsoft would do this. If you could play Xbox games on your PC why would you ever ever ever ever ever buy an Xbox?

This

Releasing an Xbox 360 emulator would kill the xbox.

You can already play pirated games on your xbox if you are happy to keep it off the network and not play multiplayer with it

But at least they have got your £££ for the console in the first place.

If they did this, piracy would no doubt increase, and sales would decrease from the number of PC gamers who want to play xbox 360 games on their PC and not buy an Xbox

never gonna happen.

Won't there be a new xbox by the time Windows 8 comes out?

When a new console comes out they stop making games for the old one.

It won't matter.

Thats a good point. There are currently PC emulators for the original xbox games.

But nobody gives a damn about them anymore as the games sell for pennies down the car boot sale :p

The funniest thing about this thread is the amount of console-fanboys that have come here to bitch about PCs and how bad they are.

Computers only go wrong if you've done something stupid to it.

Think, "on live" who said you needed the hardware yourself when you could be streaming the game from the cloud. Playing it on any device you want, tablet, phone, laptop, desktop or back home on your console. My idea would be make them buy the game for the home console then with that you get the rights for an on line service to play on any ms device you want and all scores awards would be synced.

I have had far more annoying problems and things going wrong on my 360 (which is now sold) and PS3 than i have ever had on my self built PC's.....

I could see the downloadable games you get for xbox live marketplace being available via an inbuilt shop in windows 8.

Really don't think they would allow full 360 games to be run from disk no matter how nice a feature that would be.

In your opinion.. however this is a thread in a PC gamer forum, if you happen to think that PC gamers are best served by silently, (and by silently I can assure you I receieved no e-mail or communication about whether I wanted to move my account to xbox.com), moving all accounts from gamesforwindows.com to xbox.com you should cash in your PC gamer credentials right now.

Microshaft used to have a large heritage of PC game content from Flight Simulator to Halo, Age of Empires and more.. now PC games have been relagated to a sideshow add on, inside an Xbox domain, it's truly sad how Microshaft have fallen, and sadder still that you're actually trying to defend them.

I was at PAX last year and I spoke to a number of Bungie bods about why Halo wasn't out on PC, when it originally was issued on PC, and Halo 2 was exclusive to Vista. Halo 3 and Halo:Reach are both written on PC and ported to Xbox.. but a PC version is beyond the reasoning of M$.

Sorry but I have a PC, it works far better than any Xbox could even dream of. I don't want an Xbox, I don't need an Xbox, and I certainly don't want a login for a service built around Xbox's when I neither use one, or want to use one or even want to pay for using the service (which is probably in the pipeline for PC users).

Sorry. I don't have any sepcific PC Gamer credentials to trade in. I have platform wide go-anywhere "Gamer" credential instead. PC included!

For the record, I'm not trying to defend them, because I couldn't care less about the non issue that it is. Any gamer that doesn't care about branding hasn't been affected in any way. Oh noes an evil Xbox logo on the site! *Cancels account* Pathetic.

You still seem to fail to realise the entire fact that your account, has not moved, nor changed, in any way shape or form since you created it. It's like refusing to get your car serviced at the official dealership because they also service their own motorbikes and asked you to walk through the motorbike service entrance while they're painting the car services door.
