Running 5760x1080 BF3 on ULTRA - Am I Running Out Of Memory on GPU? 2x6990's?

As title, it's made me think, running this res at ULTRA causing me problems, jerking all over the shop... and then thought hold on I'm reading people using 1.7gb of GPU ram here and nothing like these res's? People#s opinion as since I've tweaked settings, it's running like a bitch even though it's showing 40-50fps on multiplayer... YET it's playing like it's lagging... just had to turn 4xAA off as it keeps bloody crashing...

Amd cards take a huge hit on performance from this game when aa is enabled. I would go for ultra setting plus high fxaa. If thats still not to your liking then i would sell up and go xfire 7970. I would think 2gb ram is fine with fxaa but with msaa you may be pushing the limit of ram plus fps. I think you also need a cpu upgrade as that cpu is a definate bottleneck to your gpus.

You sure it's not micro-stuttering issue caused by 4 GPUs? Bit-tech did a test for 5780 res with SLI GTX590 and CF6990, and the conclusion they drew was both set-ups were micro-stuttering in games so badly that they dimmed it unplayable.

Are you sure its not overheating and throttling back or something? I have no stuttering running 2x 6990s at 5760x1200...
On a seperate note though, its pointless anyway. The B2K update for whatever reason broke quadfire, on some (most) maps in MP you'll crash after ~15 mins anyway  Whether its a bug that exists in catalyst drivers and was just made prominent by the update I've no idea; just seems odd that nVidia cards are not affected.

I've given up trying to get in touch with AMD & DICE about the issue after putting days and weeks of effort into it. Endless maze of being told to reinstall/update drivers/windows/BF3 etc

I would try and run the cards at stock clocks! You tried the latest drivers with Caps too?

Your CPU would be holding you back, but I don't think it would matter on this game as BF3 loves GPU, not CPU. Although, I still think that your bottle necked CPU MAY be a problem.

Maybe cpu bottlenecking as on a Q6600 @3.2ghz with a pair of 275's the had a big performance hit as the Q6600 didnt work well and stuggled with mutli gpu set up's

Found moving to an i7 was a massize leap in perfomance when using multi gpu's same can be seen with the 4870x2 there was a big perfomance jump there going i7.

So with your 2x6990 must be being stranggled by the q6600

Ah...only just noticed...CF6990 on a Q6600 at 3.45GHz. Seriously, need a faster platform.

Pug have you disabled your pagefile? If so enable it and make it system managed and see if that fixes vram problem. I had a similiar issue, i was running out of vram at 1080p ultra+x4aa.

Advice:

1. Have you tried setting renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 1?

2. You cannot run Ultra - try High as it looks pretty much the same

3. But as mentioned, you need to upgrade that Q6600!

Hmmm [email protected] and 2x6990!!

OP this is your main performance hit factor ala Q6600 ;)

I have [email protected] and a single 5850

1920x1080 res, High settings (motion blur, ambient acclusion off, shadows medium)

My average gpu usage is as follows in BF3:

5850 725/1000Mhz (stock) GPU usage 84-86%

5850 900/1200MHz (overclocked) GPU Usage 70-72% (dipping to even 55% usage during heavy action!! :()

I wouldn't be surprised if your gpu usage is only 20-25%.

Q6600 imo is good for single cards (bottleneck still occurs) but nor for sli/crossfire;)

Hi,

Sorry on a bit of a side note, i run eyefinity on BF3, however i always think the sides zoom in to much, does the FOV (Horizontal) help with that? (i.e push the image back a bit so its more correct)

Some games just seem better at that part than BF3

Also where do you get that prgram,

Many Thnaks

Its in the Release notes about that issue if you play on Ultra it will crash.
It may of been the B2K Update or the Driver update but lets hope that AMD sort it.

@pugheaven

Have MSI afterbuner running OSD with
GPU clocks, temps for all GPUs and Vram showing, don't bother with mem clocks.

If you see 8GB of Vram being used then you have overdone it.
If you see any GPU clocks drop ingame then its most likely overheating and throttling and it becomes a stuttery mess.

it seems bf3 don't use tri/quad fire very well . because i've just tested it on a single 6950 @ 1080p, Ultra setting and i get around 55fps. with trifire at same setting i get around 95fps.. surely 2 6950/70 would have got 95fps~ and trifire should be getting 120-130fps?

also the game keeps crashing and keep getting this message "Game disconnected: something went wrong. "

it does the same on my laptop thats with a NV GPU.
