if u mean me. i didn't buy the 6990. amd gave it to me as a gift.
No he means the op who has a q6600 paired with 2 x 6990s. You have a nice cpu.

It's because I was about to buy an i5 and gear (in a seperate thread), then I was offered a 6990 at a daft price for a 2 month olf one, and just bought it thinking it'd be good for the future and if quadfire sucked I'd sell on... so, it's not that I'm fooling myself thinking that I'd get 4x the performance of a 6970, it was a bit of futureproofing... however at the moment, I'm now in the situatio I can't buy the i5 which is what I wanted with bits as I've not got £400. Was considering selling one of the 6990's and upgrading... OR selling both, buying a 7970 and i5 with the cash![email protected], DDR2 memory (when at least there is 8gb of it) and dual 6990's. That has to be one of the most unbalanced systems I have ever seen (GPU(s) compared to rest of system). Pretty sure you would get better performance in some games by selling one 6990 and the motherboard/DDR2 mem/q6600 and buying a I5 2500K with a new mb and 8gb of ddr3 ram ....with a lot of change to spare to!

You're better off with the latter. Mostly because there isn't a CPU on earth that could let two 6990s stretch their legs properly.
Infact I would be truly surprised if that Q6600 could even let one 6970 loose.
My I7 950 holds back my 7970 when compared to my friend's I7 2600k. By about 15%.

Small world, I think it was your thread on Guru3d I replied to about quadfire with BF3...snip...
That isn't true, I've no CPU bottlenecking at all; neither has Final8y by the looks of his post even with 4x7970s.You're better off with the latter. Mostly because there isn't a CPU on earth that could let two 6990s stretch their legs properly.
