Running a case fan externally using AC/DC adaptor

I bought the 22cm akasa fan so i can use to cool a TV cabinet (with PS3, xbox amp etc)

So i wired it to the ac/dc mains adaptor and it runs fine. But at 12V the mains adaptor is at 1.7amp fans generally run at 0.1amp.

so is it something safe to do or a bad idea?

Any alternative ideas?

the rating of the plug is its maximum load, similar to say, psu ratings
