Running a plug extension into a plug extension.

I have one double socket in my room. From one socket I have a 6 way extension lead powering light, telephone, radio alarm, harmony charger, laptop charger and mobile charger, then from the other socket I have a 4 way extension, off this is my air cooler and then 2 x 6 way extensions and a 4 way extension. These 16 sockets have my TV, server, HTPC, printer, DAS, amp, monitor, sky HD box, Blu-ray player, PS3, router and 5 port gigabit switch.
Where is your xbox plugged in?!

Should be fine.

At uni in halls I had one plug socket in my bedroom. Off that I powered my PC, Monitor, Amp, Speakers, TV, mini fridge, lamp and a few chargers

No it is not safe, once you plug an extension into an extension little baby extensions will come out.

13a x 240v =3120w

So as long as your load doesn't exceed that you'll be fine

As far as I remember my physics teacher told me the same.
I only have 1 socket in my room, but I use 3 extensions. However, I'd only use this after counting up all the wattage and make sure its not anywhere near 3000W.

I think I'm pulling about 500w with all the electronics at full blast and that's typical, but then if I need to hoover or something, I'll turn the other stuff off, because the hoover is 2kw.

Also, if you ever use a wind-up extension, it'll tell you on the front how much load you can have if it's still wound up (its typically not much so be careful). Always unwind long distance extension cables, as wound up cables generate heat when electricity passes through a coil like that. The heat can melt the wire insulation, which will cause a short circuit, massive heat, sparks and nasty stuff.

It depends on the qualiyt of the wiring inside the extension

Some have good wiring throughout, some have terrible wiring inside.

An electrician at work advised not to daisy chain for that precise reason, but said if you have to then buy very good quality extensions
