Ok quick outline

Have 3bedrooms upstairs and all walls are down and im running electrics and Cat6 cable.

Plan is to have Server in loft and have the following. Just looking for some advice or options

On wall Ill have TV and the following sockets
2x Power
3x Cat6 (2x cat6 sockets will be for the HDMI over Cat6 and the socket will be for TV internet)

In corner of the room ill have receiver and Media streamer
4xpower
5x Cat6 (2x will be connected to the HDMI over Cat6 near the TV and the other x3 will be for Ps3 and media streamer and laptop,

Ok my question is, am i better to have the above or get a HDMI matrix/Ir reciever and keep it in the loft and just run the Cat6 over HDMI to the wall near TV then the other end to the loft where the matrix is.

Any advice be grateful

Just a point for you to ensure you've got covered - your HDMI over C6 will need to be isolated from any IP traffic. You can't route it through switches etc; the HDMI signal just uses a different cable for transport and so it needs to be point-to-point.

I can't quite visualise the setup I'm afraid so will refrain from commenting - perhaps when it's not 2:30am and I can get the ol' brain working properly I'll be able to help! In the meantime I'm sure someone else will be able to offer some advice.

Hi syx,

Got that covered mate, the Cat6 will just be linked to the matrix HDMI input.

Thinking of this

The above will be in the loft with all the HDMI Cat 6's running into it. Then the Media centre and Sky box etc will be in the loft also.

There will be IR receivers in each room which will all link back to the loft matrix so ill have signal.

emmm

I wouldn't link sockets together, in case you change the layout in the future.

I'd run it all to the loft, and change it so you run 4x CAT6 to each location instead of 3 in one place, 5 in another. What baluns are you getting? You can get ones with IR passback, or have your own sensors elsewhere.

What about coax? Always good to have a backup distribution for the TV or IR (if using Sky)

I have a 4x4 hdmi matrix in my setup but mine is a cheapo ebay jobbie, it was still £300 though so not that cheap.
Anyway I have a few issues with mine, yours being 3 times the price might not have them.
Overall mine works fantastic and I'm really pleased with it the problems with it are:

1. Remote distance is about 3-3.5m which is a problem in one room so I am relocating my Humax PVR and matrix to this room, the remote will then work the PVR direct rather than through one of the matrix receiver units.

2. When I power off the PVR the Matrix seems to forget about it all together so when I try and power the PVR back on it won't see it. I have to power on the PVR manually, I have managed to power it on a few times by pressing the button on the matrix remote then pressing the power on the other remote. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

3. About 3 times in the 3 moths I've had it, it doesn't display a signal on the TV so I've had to turn the matrix on and off to reset things.

I'd be very dubious about relocating everything to the loft as it would be inaccessible.

The matrix itself has proved to be excellent and I can't recommend the setup enough.

Ok now im doing this.. What do you all think??

TV mounted on wall will have
5x Cat6 - 2 of them will run to the Matrix downstairs as HDMI
1 of them will run to server downstairs
2 of them will run to the corner of the room where MAYBE one day i want and Xbox or somink again they will be Cat6 over HDMI.
2x TV/Sky Coax Socket which will run downstairs.

In the corner of the room will be
5 Cat6.
2 of them will be linked to the TV as HDMI
3 of them will go downstairs to the server for internet connection.

baluns ??? Are they the sky coax stuff i mentioned?

The baluns I was referring to are here (click)

They turn your 2 CAT5/6 runs in to HDMI and back again. Some good matrixs have dual CAT5/6 input and or output.

If you're going to run 5 runs of CAT5/6 then you may aswell have 6 so that you have a dual and single socket. Unless you're running the bare cables?
