hi all

my mate has purchased a brand new VW Scirocco 2.0 TDi GT DSG Bluemotion

Hes not got it yet as it on order and is unsure on how to run the engine in from new when he gets it

is it at all needed nowadays on these new modern engines?

thanks!

From memory the car documents will say to drive the car in a certain way for the first 1500 miles, more gently for the first 500-ish, things like not exceeding 70mph or 2000rpm, and to not use full throttle etc.

Not sure if that's actually required though, the new engines do loosen up over a few thousand miles.

50/50 mix of petrol/diesel for first few tanks should help things along a bit.

I 'run in' around 2-3 cars each year and tbh I tend to drive them normally. However be careful of new tyres/brakes (which may not work as well initially), but these run in pretty quick.

Run it on Petrol for the first 1000 miles. Helps to free up the pistons and valves. Healthy power increases shown too :)

Not only works on new cars just tried this in my 66k mile A4...my god what a difference it makes, like a brand new car again :D

I used to run in 4-5 cars a year when I was working at an MB dealer, there were no real instructions unless the car was an AMG, but I found with diesels that if they are driven hard from the start then the engine feels 'looser' and more responsive.

Diesels will benefit from being driven hard, helps bed the piston rings in . Just don't brake hard

Thrash the living **** out of it from day 1. It's brand new & he'll be selling it in a couple of years so who cares, Out blows up use the warranty. :p
