Running in a new car?

Fact is, your mum is paying for it thus she is the legal owner. Your name on the V5 means nothing. It's not your car, it's your mums which she is allowing you to drive. She could, at any point, tell you to get stuffed, not let you drive it and you can't do anything about it.

who cares?
what business is it of yours whose car it is?

he asked about running-in new cars, not whether you are offended by him claiming to own a car which may or may not technically be his.

I didn't bring the point up, someone else did. He's getting abuse because he keeps saying it's his car when it isn't. I don't care who owns the car and it's none of my business but it's annoying when he lies about who owns it.

all modern engines have their running in on a dyno first, but a bit of extra caution never did any wrong.
I've never been in a new car that doesn't rev freely... The engine will have gone through a set amount of miles on a dyno before even being put in the car.

Imagine the cost and time implications of doing this for all those shiney new engines manufacturers churn out on a daily basis. Specialist/prestige makes with a low volume of sales/production yes (Spie even mentioned this in his 599 thread) but normal run of the mill cars it just isnt practical for any manufacturer.

why? how does this affect you, or indeed anyone else in the world?
who cares if he's lying?

I don't like liars. I don't like it when people say they own something when all they actually own on the car is some shiny mirror covers.

Frankly your derogatory, aggressive attitude is incredibly sad.

Fact is you were the first person to crack a mum joke. I never even discussed the ownership of the car until you came into my thread and started making pathetic remarks.

Even if in a years time I made a thread asking why the engine is making a weird noise, or something along those lines, you still would not be able to resist typing "why you asking us, surely your mum should take it to the garage."

I'm sick of talking to people who use the anonymity of the internet to warrant anti-social behaviour. How about you stay away from my threads or answer the question as you would if anyone else were asking it. Thanks.

I took it easy till the engine warmed up then gave it some beans from time to time but dont bounce off the limiter, try not to labour the engine and make use of all gears. Did this on my A3 for the first 800 miles.

And you use the anonymity of the internet to post under an alter-ego and lie about ownership of a vehicle so swings and roundabouts really.

I'm going to let this drop. Please understand that your claims about me lying are absolute rubbish. I stated that the car is registered in my name thus you could argue I am the owner. I never once tried to claim it was my car. The thread title was NOT "Running in MY new car."

What confuses me is how he's getting away with having two accounts and neither of them has been banned.

And FYI most production run built cars aint run in from the factory not sure why people think they would go through all that expense to do so.

Because that fat tattooed bloke that drives the forklift, eats big pies, smokes like a trooper, dead hard and knows everything once sneared so and since then its been gospel... ;)

I only have one account, which is this one.

i'm on your side, but i couldn't pass this up, sorry!

I'll admit I didn't do myself any favours with that comment, but I did go on to justify the statement and put fourth an argument that you could say the owner of the car is who it's registered to. I know at the end of the day however it is not my car.

Quite funny how a lot of 17 year olds who get cars bought for them have cars registered in their parents name yet it's still their car.

I could be totally wrong here but are you Tommy B? You both seem remarkably similar and you even registered the month after Tommy B stopped posting on here.

I could deny this but the truth is I was wondering how long it would be until someone realised. What on earth made you think that?

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to check out the handbook when it arrives.
