Hi all

Just wonder if you can give me a few tips whilst running in new PC.

I have had it running for 3 hours now with Prime95 and no errors.
My temps are 59,59,59,59 is this too high (using coretemp), I have read other threads regarding "under load" how do I know if it is underload??

Any other tests neede to be carried out???

I feel well chuffed at the moment as this is my first build :D

Thanks for your help.

Everything should be fine if its at stock, providing the BIOS is setup correctly.
Seems a litte on the warm side for temps in Prime at stock though.
I have the same cooler, get to about 70'C at 3.6Ghz.
At stock I get about 40'C-45'C under load.

Yes it is, but i would like to OC but just want to make sure everything is stable at the moment and no problems. How long before I can start to OC??

Are you running small FFT's in prime? You can start to overclock whenever you like, I didn't test my system at all when it was at stock. Just keep an eye on those temps.

How do I check if it is underload??? also I put AS5 on CPU wihout realising there was something on the AC7 !!!!

Would it be advisable for me to redo the AC7 properly with just AS5?? and then redo temps??

And another question how to I update bios & drivers? I have downloaded them from Gigabyte and EVGA but not sure how to implement?

Sorry for all the questions but I bow to your superior knowledge

So did you put some AS5 on the processor ... and your not running a stock cooler.. your running a Artic Cooler 7 pro ?...

If so then.. did you wipe the TIM off of the AC7 Pro... or did you leave it on and used the stuff on the processor as well ? if this is the case i would advise you take the AC7 Pro back off... clean both the CPU and the AC7 and then apply the TIM to the CPU only... One line down the middle of a Q6600 Iirc :)

If you have two layers of different TIM and a Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro... that would explain the high temps.

iam just doing primestable on my new build as we speak and iam hitting around 45-49C on each core is that high?

Heatsink: AC7
Thermal paste: AS5

i took the stock stuff off before hand as well and cleaned. and with many different ways of putting the AS5 i went with the 1 line down the middle trick

Definately. The MX2 that comes pre-applied on the AF7 is the better stuff. If you have left both on, you need to clean it all off and start again. It sounds like you have a tube of AS5 so use that, rather than buying a tube of MX2.

If you're planning to update your BIOS, I know that Gigabyte have their own windows based software to do this, think its called @BIOS? Don't use this!
It's always much safer to update your BIOS via a flash drive on system startup - read your motherboard manual as it will explain this in full detail.
Using the windows based software can lead to corruptions i.e. Windows crashing half way through, then you'll be left with a corrupt BIOS.
If you have dual BIOS on that board then it's less of an issue, but best to avoid in any case.

The drivers - just choose your board from GB website and download the ones you want, then install - just uninstall your old ones first.

PS: If it's running prime, it's under load - 100% CPU usuage.

On a Q6600 the 2 cores are side by side, so AS5 performs better when applied horizontally, not vertically.

Indeed :)

Also, Here is a guide to applying your TIM.. I used this and.. Q6600 is idle at 29C average accross the 4 cores with a Tuniq T 120.

APC .. seems a wee bit high, how long have you had it running, i found after 24 hours mine had gotten 6/7C cooler after "setting in"... And the AC 7 pro does give temps a few degrees higher than the Tuniq Tower 120 which i have idling around 29/30.. so if you are hitting 45 without setting in, without overclocking and idling, then i think that might be about right...

at the moment its been running primestable for about a hour and half

49-49-45-45 and doesn't really move from there

@ dr. sarf

yup like me if your holding the chip the other way its the same theroy lol

Yes I put AS5 on CPU, and yes running AC7 Pro

No I did not wipe TIM off AC7...

Is it alright to use nail varnish remover to remove AS5 & TIM or use something proper?

I will then re apply AS5 to CPU then hopefully have lower temps ;) I will repost if temps are still high.

Thanks for the advice & pics Jimbo

I really wouldn't - it's rather harsh and I wouldn't put it on a chip like that.
Get yourself some cleaner & purifier, it's only a few quid and does the job.
