Hi I have 2x4gb kingston hyperX genesis grey ram and have noticed that cpu-z and asus tune software both saying ram is running in single channel when it should be running in dual channel.

Motherboard is Asus M5A97 PRO
CPU AMD Phenom II X4 B55 (unlocked) oc'ed to 3.8ghz

Oh damn thats probably why its also running at 1333mhz >.< and it would let me go with 1666mhz.

Since I have overclocked my CPU its kinda underclocked my ram, if I did pull the ram out and put it in the 2 blue slots would that still be ok or would I need to put my system back to stock settings first?

Since my Gelid cooler goes over the first dimm slot the only way now would be to take off the cpu cooler >.< I am hoping there isnt too much of a difference running in single channel as apposed to dual channel :(

But I am thinking of getting another 2x4gb sticks so that will take up all 4 dimm slots if I do that will it still run in single channel?

I don't understand

The blue slots are the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU so if the cooler blocks the first slot I don't see how that affects you.

If you have the RAM in the blue slots that's dual channel.

If you fill all 4 RAM slots that's dual channel.

Single channel is only if you use 1 black slot and 1 blue slot or just a single stick.

When I say first slot I mean the one near the CPU the cooler is huge and since I already put the ram in that slot its black the cooler sits over it and then i put one in the blue slot. So i will get another 8gb filling up all slots so then it will run in dual channel.

You don't have to buy another 8GB just to run in dual channel mode.

Just put the 2 x 4GB sticks you have now in slots of the same colour, either black or blue.
