Hi pack,

Everything I've tried with this memory so far is boiling back to the likelihood my motherboard doesn't like it. Before I sell up and buy some other dimms I figured I'd better ask you first :)

Basically anything over 1600mhz with sa/vtt at 1.2v pll at 1.9v won't post, if I fire it up to sa/vtt 1.35-1.4v I can get post but memtest will instantly throw out a few thousand errors, even at 1760mhz 11-12-12-36-2T 180. Ddr voltage is at 1.675v. Everything is fine at stock 1600mhz cl11 1.35v in memtest.

So I'm left with either a sub timing causing issues (all auto just now) or the motherboard just doesn't like the memory. Bios is the latest 2.1 and I've had 2400mhz dimms running at 2440 cl11 previously with much lower sa/vtt.

Any ideas?

Teachin you how to suck eggs im sure but as the memory controller is integrated its more likely a cpu issue than a motherboard, have you got anther system you could try the chips in? Also have you tried with just 8gb in rather than the full 16?

I can easily try it in 8gb dual channel mode.

No other system to try it in unfortunately, though this chip was in both a ud7 and this xpower with my previous 2400mhz kit.

So wind everything back to stock on the cpu and re-try the memory? Though when I tried this before - but with 1.2v on sa & vtt it would only post at a high of 1866 11-14-14 2T.

worth giving it a go what was the ddr volts when you hit 1866? Hate to say it but with running 5.1ghz and what i assume is upwards of 1.5 volts you might have damaged something especially if youve been cooking the imc at 1.4 volts thats heading to the max intel specs and into phase / ln2 territory, although i suspect no where near the 8 pack approved running of coal and lion hearts voltages

Tried ddr voltage of 1.55, 1.65 & 1.675. My aim was to start with high volts and work back once I was happy it was stable.

From what I understand 1.4v IMC is Intel's spec limit for water. The chip has only ever been underwater and up until yesterday it had never sat higher then 1.2v on IMC, IMC volts on the 2400 kit only required ~1.15v. Highest vcore I've used is ~1.48v give or take with a little droop.

Edit: Timing details in this post: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24004082&postcount=1083

Right, I've ordered some of the hyperx 10th anniversary 2400mhz stuff to see how that fairs up, should show if it's the chip/board or memory.

Sorry mate. Been away at Iseries as several from the forums will testify. Then a couple of days at home.

Post up all the sub timings and I will get this sorted for ya.

Check above post with a link in :)

Enjoy iseires then? I figured you'd be at home making up for a weekend of 'working' :p

Killed the purchase of the Kingston memory, though I have snagged a very cheap ripjawsz 2133 c9 kit if they become required.

Update: had an email back from msi, they provided me with a long list of dimms tested with the xpower II, stating if they pass or fail, Samsung isn't listed so can only presume these are untested by manufacturer.

where did you get those sticks from mate I need another set.

I will work on these timings asap.

Either enable your trust or fire me over your email address and I'll send you a link, it's the 4x2gb c9 2133 kit, just under £70 delivered :)

The very same ram I'm running if it's the black stuff? A very nice piece of kit.

You have email :)

I've had a better look at the list MSI gave me, the Samsung memory 100% isn't listed and MSI say if it isn't listed they can't diagnose if its a memory or motherboard problem :p

Yep black with a kind of lightning blue logo? Tbh I probably should have gone g.skill when I first moved to X79, would have saved me the endless headaches I've had with X79 and memory :p
