Running shoes- spec me

Less then 50 years, modern running shoes started in the early 70's and with them increased running injury rates.

Injury rates of who? Seasoned runners or those new to running thinking that a flash pair of Nike's is all they need to run 10 miles?

I've seen studies that concluded cheap running shoes were as good as expensive shoes in terms of impact absorbtion -how did they reach this conclusion, they had people walk (not run) in different shoes. Pointless.

Ive had huge problems with shin splints and im still looking for a pair of decent shoes myself. I would tend to do a lot of indoor football. when at the worse I played barefoot, even went on some walks barefoot.

Is there anywhere else that would look at the problem? Any running shop ive found in NI are no better than the likes of JJB. just pure commercialism and people who dont have a clue apart from manufacturing guff =/

I got shin splints due to Over Pronation.

I went to a Podiatrist who told me what i need to look for in a shoe and gave me someone to go see to get some GAIT done and some shoes fitted and then he made me some Orthotics.

All good now, No pain at all:)

Go get ya self to a Podiatrist.

If it helps i run in Asics Kayanos. Very stable and Supportive shoe.
I find nikes have a better build quality and last much lionger but they just dont make a shoe with the same support

thanks zip. Ill book my appoinment tomorrow and see when I can get fitted in. When I went to the Drs they where useless. They gave me tablets to clear up the inflamation and that was it. So much for prevention over cure. Ive found that any named shoes are useless too. Donno why theyre considered sports brands half the time.Is it any wonder that athlets get so many injuries =/

Brand name shoes seem to be the best ive had. Anything cheapo or non named destroy my legs.

Its just a matter of finding what shoe you need, This will help a lot but if you need to get Orthotics they will really sort it out. My advice is to get custom made ones too, Spend a bit more and be pain free :)

For me its Orthotics + the right Shoes + the right stretches = Greatness. All 3 can help and will work together. Well they do in my case.

All up i have around $600-$700AUD strapped to my feet (Custom Orthotics $400, Shoes $200-$300) And its well worth every single cent
