Anyone running u.2/3 drive on desktop. I'm strating to look at things for my next upgrade and the u.2 drive prices actually dont look aweful given performance. What worries me is connecting them. There seem to be some adapter cards, but I don't know how much I trust the startechs and akasas that are putting stuff out. Icydock have things but seem a big step up in price.

I am running an Intel Optane 905P 1.5TB 2.5" PCIe SSD which came with a U.2 Cable Adaptor.
You will need a motherboard with a U.2 connector.
An NVME M.2 to U.2 should work fine as its just PCI-e Gen3 x4 at both ends to give you a U.2 connecter.

I just built a system with a 30tb Solidigm U.2 drive and it worked well. However this was on WRX900 platform and the board already had slimsas connector so just had to get a slimsas to U.2 cable. As previous poster says there is no active conversion so any PCIe to U.2 or NVME to U.2 converter will work. You can even go PCIe/NVME to Slimsas and use a Slimsas to U.2 cable.
