Running without cambelt cover?

) is it to run a 2.0l Ecotek without the cambelt cover fitted?Ah so it's not a completely idiotic thing to do but is a little risky? 
The reason I ask is that it's a bit broken and I want the car this evening. This amateur mechanics stuff is harder than it looks! Give me a nice Linux box any day.
Cambelt cover is one part so no issues there. Thanks guys.
