Russians Do Love a Cuppa

I think this is just business as usual for Russia, I remember when Boris Nemstov (critic of Putin) was blown away on a bridge a few years ago, it's just... a lost cause trying to get rid of Putin.

Indeed, Russia is back to just being a corrupt dictatorship again.

Yeah they don’t like people who expose state corruption... whole country is basically run by gangsters.

Do wonder if something like this was authorised by Putin or someone lower down has made a silly move here.

The Salisbury poisoning seemed to cause some grief in Moscow for the GRU people behind it given how they bungled the thing.

Will also be interesting to see what Putin does re: Belarus in coming weeks. He’s not going to like having that remaining pro-Russian, European former Soviet state state turn towards the west too.

Imagine if someone had done that to Corbyn years ago! Might have had an actual credible opposition and wouldn't be stuck with Boris the ****.

Umbrella anyone?
WOW! That's a Markov someone who has a knowledge of history

I suspect that this will all be glossed over as something that happened in a far-away country of which we know little and whose crooked Oligarchs are busy buying up property around the country. We didn't get that worked up about the Saudi Arabian assassination of Jamal Khashoggi - again for sound commercial reasons

It's incredible how brazen they are, they just do it; kill whoever opposes them, then simply deny all knowledge - even when it's totally obvious.

I don't think the situation is resolvable, it'll just go on like this for years and years, until the whole thing likely collapses.

Lead lined coffin on order no doubt.

They have to dispose of all that soviet era fissile material somehow.

With what was going on with that mayor in East Russia, I imagine someone in the circle of Putin's criminal franchise got spooked and decided to get rid of the most vocal opponent before it catalysed into open discourse of the illegitimacy of the Kremlin.
