Typhoon launches operationally for the first time
21 Aug 07

Typhoon F2s took on their first operational duties on 29 June 2007, when they assumed responsibility for the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) element of UK and NATO air defence in the southern part of the country at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire.

According to Sky news, yeah I know, the Russians were being a little too nosey and got sent packing.

Disclaimer - this no doubt happens all the time but I thought the photo's were kinda cool at least.

I'm sure i remember reading this story when it happened and it was actually 2 Tornado's that were scrambled.

Conspiracy tbqfhwy.

Why do they use those big planes. Didn't Tom clancy say submarines could hear them becuase of thier turbo prop engines.

Didnt they introduce these aircraft in the 50's?

1952 but obviously updated since..

Bear H (Tu-95MS/Tu-95MS6/Tu-95MS16) - Completely new cruise missile carrier platform based on the Tu-142 airframe. This variant became the launch platform of the Kh-55 (AS-15 Kent) cruise missile. The Bear-H was referred to by the U.S. military as a Tu-142 for some time in the 1980s before its true designation became known.

Yeah exactly, it happens all the time as specified in the OP.

The last thread was posted only 2 weeks ago.

RAF Jets intercept Russian bomber.

They converged with it and after shadowing it for some time the Russian aircraft turned away.

Last month RAF Tornados - the Typhoon's predecessor - were scrambled after Tu-95s flew close to British airspace.

Earlier this month the Americans intercepted two Bears over the Pacific Island of Guam.

President Putin has announced the Russian air force is to resume airborne patrols by nuclear armed bombers, suspended in the Cold War.

Yet more flexing of muscles by Russia. No provocation but seems to be a fair amount of attempted intimidation.

Thoughts?

Apart from the interception by the RAF this isn't new news. We knew on Saturday that Russia was sending bombing craft on long range missions outside of its terrortries. Tbh, it's about time someone put Putin back in his place and reminded him of just how weak his country has become recently.

It's more than likely bluff (or should that be 'buff')
