Need some help have some surface rust i wish to remove, doesnt have to blend with paintwork I just wish to make it stop spreading. Small amounts on 1 wheel arch and 2 bits on the sills (is that the right name, thing under doors). So anyone explain (in simple terms) what to do or even some sites with pictures to show how to DIY it!?!

What i did was remove as much of the old rust as i could with a wire wheel in a drill. Then use a rust curing formula to kill the rust and turn it to a paintable surface. I then put 4 coats of Hammertoe No 1 rust beater primer and then finally the colour coats and clear coat.

Ive also sprayed the inside of the door with Waxoyl to kill any rust on the inside of the door.

Basially the theory is get the old rust off and take it back to clean metal, then cover it up with fresh paint. So take the old stuff off with a wire wheel in a drill and paint over it with hammerite or primer followed by gloss topcoat from spray cans.

Yeah you won't need to go more than an inch away from where the rust is unless it's eaten through...

Doesn't sound like it has. Anyhow I went at that with 240 emery paper and smoothed off the metal that wasn't rusted with a finer grade and treated the surrounding area with kurust and anti-rust primer. Any rust treatment you can get on the metal around where it is rusted is going to make sure the stuff doesn't come back and cause any more trouble.
