hi

i've decided i am upgrading my rig, well, selling it all and starting again. i'm not sure if i will watercool the next one or get an all in one yet.

however, is SLI rx 480's a good move as i do fancy AMD again or stick wih nvidia and geta single 1070?

i will be switching to 4k gaming and a 4k monitor. i don;t want my ultrawide anymore, but may go dual monitor setup instead.

I would say single GTX 1070, go single card solution where possible, no need to worry about SLI profiles, imperfect scaling, less heat / power etc. Also in the event you do need more power down the line, can add a second 1070 if needed.

Personally I'd take the 1070 - mGPU setups seem kind of hit and miss these days - AMD might push a ton of support into CF over the next few months or drop the ball entirely who knows.

Tough one.

Not sure the 1070 has the power for 4k.

Where crossfire works (which I've found to be in most cases) it should just scrape by at 4k. With that said, there are definitely cases where crossfire is very poor, but not obviously so from benchmarks. The witcher 3 scales well, but the stutter is truly horrific and makes 50-60+ fps look and feel choppy.

There are rumours the 490 will just be 480 crossfire, in which case AMD will want to make it a thing that just works since it's going to be aimed squarely at the upper-middle market. That is all just rumour, however.

How do you fit Everton into your case? Tight fit no? :p :D ;)

thanks guys. is the 480 8 gig card no good for 4k?

everton in my case: that would be a fairly expensive pc then. good resale value!!

on a side note guys, for my rig as is with a 29" ultrawide, would £1000-1200 be too much money?

no one card plays 4k on its own at 60 fps.

If money is no option, get the 1070. I wouldn't bother with xfire, it's had its day. Dx12 is all about multi gpu but requires the game makers to do it themselves.
