RX 480 Vs. 380X?

Run something like Prime95 and open up CPU-Z, and see what speed it reports while Prime95 is running. 37c sounds too low, unless you have an amazing CPU cooler.

Overclocking will do the opposite, it will demand more power from the board. To get around the throttling issue you either underclock/undervolt the CPU to lower its power demands, or provide proper cooling to the VRMs (which is located at the headsinks next to the CPU socket). Hence me suggesting you pointing a fan to them.

cheers mate. well its at stock 4.0ghz with turbo 4.2ghz - what would you consider a decent underclock? and the best software for this?

also if i bought a higher end mobo this would help too???

Have you checked GPU usage on afterburner, and/or CPU usage with something like Coretemp? CS:GO is a really easy game to run, unless you've accidently got 8x supersampling AA and other stuff turned on, you should have no issues at 1080p!

hmm....so far on Prime95 the max temp is 43c ?? WTF?? according to MSI AB

Have you checked to see what your clocks are at while running prime. Cpu-z should show you this in real time while the program is running. If it's showing you at 4.2ghz maybe you just have a great cpu. A good test for this would be to run 3dmark firestrike and check out your physics score. There is a free version so will not cost you a thing.

Edit i see i was beaten to the core speed. Still run the firestrike test and report back with your Physics score which is the cpu part. Your Graphics score should also tell us if all is good there as well.

just downloading it now, and with my **** internet will take around 50 minutes.

i stopped the prime btw, and checked, all 8core running at 100% and the temp was a constant 42c peeking at 43c.

That actually seems about right. If that's the case then it's something about Counter Strike that's for some reason holding it back.
