RX 590 High Temps? (PowerColor Red Devil)

Hey folks! Recently had a new rig built by the good people over at overclockers and it's been fantastic over the past couple of weeks, however I have noticed my GPU seems to run at fairly high temps, I've not used and AMD rig for some time and my older GTX 1060 would run at around 60 - 65c under load so I'm fairly comfortable seeing those sort of numbers, whereas my RX 590 Red Devil card seems to be running at around 75c under load on Overwatch or SW Battlefront 2 etc.

Just wondering if these are normal operating temps for these cards? Maybe even higher?
Thanks guys.

Normal.

RX590 is based on the Polaris architecture, which is fairly old and runs warmer than Nvidia equivalent.

They benefit and respond well to undervolting, so I'd give that go. Can be done easily via Wattman within the Radeon drivers.

I have a the RX580 version of the card and undervolting sees load temps drop by about 10 degrees. You also benefit from reduced noise as the fans aren't ramping up so much and also you'll be able to sustain the maximum boost on the GPU clock. :)

Undervolting the GPU clock will still allow you to reach those speeds, just at a lower voltage, heat and noise.

Think the maximum boost clock on a stock RX590 is 1545 MHz. Your card is 1576 MHz.

Run Unigine Superposition and that will show you the frequency of the GPU clock whilst the benchmark is running (and temps). You might find that the GPU clock is fluctuating throughout the test as the card is hitting it's thermal/power limit and throttling.

It's also a good way of intitially testing the undervolt after you've made changes to test stability. A blast on your favourite game is also recommended to back this up.

You might be surprised how much you can undervolt these cards and then wonder why AMD set it so high to begin with.

The RX570/580/590 attracted criticism for the amount of power they drew and resulting temperatures, which you can resolve by undervolting.

Okay so after scouring a couple of other forums and finding a Reddit post with some undervolt settings I've dropped from 1150 at the max 7 state to 1100, 1090 at state 6 & 5 and 1080 at state 4, state 3 however seems really high at 1200 by default, do my undervolt setting seem fairly reasonable? Also if you could, what sort of undervolt setting would you recommend for state 3?

You only need to adjust the last 4 states, don't bother with the first couple. Some people have reported issues if you do.

I only adjusted the last 3 or 4 on mine if I recall.

The higher states kick in when you're gaming, so obviously you want the undervolting to be applicable there. I've never seen my card hang around the lower states expect one or two when at the desktop. The load on the GPU is almost non existent at that point, so voltage and temps aren't really a concern. The fan is off on mine most of the time and only starts to spin when gaming.

Have you tried going lower than those voltages for state 5, 6 and 7? Just go down 25 then run some tests. Stable? Go down another 25. Test failed? Go back up 10 and test. Eventually you'll find the sweet spot.

Nothing to worry about until 85+ C. One thing I have noticed though is a lot of the 590s favour quieter operation so they keep fan speeds quite low and that's what leads to temps spiking up fast. Easily adjustable though, if you want to mess with it.

I know that was 1 year ago.. but i want undervolt too and should i change frequency? i changed only state 7 from 1150 to 1100 and got crash in more demanding game like ac odyssey.

Since you've bumped this. These are my Undervolt and underclock settings for my Red Dragon 590.

I was hitting thermal throttle temp at default settings so these provide much more stable performance and less noise.
My card isnt much of a clocker so if yours is better then it might be stable at higher clocks.

This video tutorial is excellent as well.
