Newbie here

I originally got a 5700xt but it ran into a fault a few days after I was using it. Tried everything to fix it but nothing worked. RMA'd it to scan, I would've been fine with a replacement but I got a refund instead. Probably because any others are out of stock.

And here I am, looking for something else with my refund money and willing to spend a bit extra for something newer. But literally everything else is out of stock apart from 6800's (non XT). Should I wait a bit or just go for one?

God this is insane. I picked a really horrible time to get into PC gaming lol. I've still got my humble 580 from my old pre-build, might just stick with that until things settle down.

Of all the cards available at the moment I'd argue that the 6800's are the best value. Some people are advocating buying a 3070 over one, why, for 10-15% worse performance at the same price? People also saying you may as well just pay up for a 3080, what at £1100. Don't be silly.

The 2 Sapphire cards above are overpriced but no other model other than the reference cards were ever going to be sold at the MSRP of £580. So when you are looking at AIB cards the Pulse would probably sell at £620 and the Nitro at £650, as it stands you're probably paying £100 over MSRP for either of these. I'd much rather do that than pay over £300 more than MSRP for an AIB 3080 or 6800 XT. I would not even consider a 3070 at £700+. As it stands in the ridiculous scalper world we are living in these two cards aren't that bad value when compared to what other cards are selling for.

Besides which if you OC and SAM a 6800 you basically get XT/3080 stock performance. Which for me is not terrible value, if you compare it to a 2080 Ti it's incredible, a 6800 is a great card which smashes a card which was £1200 6 months ago. It's £100 overpriced, yes, but unfortunately in the current market it's probably the best value you can get if you look at cost per frame.

Hmm, yeah in all honestly thats basically the level of performance I'd be fine with. I'm not even looking into OC'ing that much, nor am I that bothered about ray tracing.

£700 is still really steep for me, but it doesn't look as if the situation is improving in the near future. I'd be happy to have my hands on any high end card right now, no matter what it is. Still I may as well keep my eye open for anything.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I've learned a lot about the current situation. Probably going to keep my eye out for now, but at the same time waiting isnt going to help much.

When I was picking my components, I was first gunning for a 2070 super, but they were all out too. The 5700 was actually my second choice, for its near equal performance. If from what I've read here, a 6800 outperforms a 2070 by a significant amount, I honestly think I'd be quite happy with that. Not about the price though, but hey.

One last thing. Say I took the plunge and got a 6800, would It work well with my ryzen 7 3700x? And would a 750w psu be enough?

750£ quid for a card that should cost £510

thats is absolutely ridiculous.:eek::eek::eek:

Thats 47% price increase over a vanilla RRP 6800.

you have to be bloody nuts to buy this.:mad:
==========================

Mate @Rumble11 wait for an FE drop and pick up a 3070 or even 3060Ti and get 99% performance of 6800 with 400£-500£ extra in your pocket.

I know, I'm out of other options and this is what I'm left with lol. I'm only considering it though, gonna be holding off on anything that expensive for the time being. Can always just hang with my 580 for now.

So its either wait for ages to scramble for a drop and hope to god I'm quick enough to get something.

Or get a 6800 by selling a kidney. Or just cry at the state of the market.

Yep pretty much :D

What model RX 580 you got? They are going for good money on ebay especially if you have an 8GB model.

I think its a ASRock phantom gaming 580. I think. Was ages ago when I got my pre-build and I've tried going through my order history but can't find it. The cards come in very handy during these times though.

Yes its an 8gb model

Wow this thread blew up. Its been interesting to read through, to say the least.

I'll say that I've gone ahead and bit the bullet. The nitro was out of stock, so I settled for a pulse as its basically the same just no adjustable RGB. I'm convinced that this card is going to be the best for price/performance for a good while. (720 quid is still a stinger though). But its not a whole lot more than what I'd be normally paying i guess. I just wanted something that performs well, and the 6800 sounded right up my alley. Ray tracing is nice, but I've never been that bothered about it.

And I'm certainly not bothered about cyberpunk after that horror show of a release lol.
