OK so im new to this forum but SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!
I was able to snatch Powercolor AMD RX Vega 64 black for 499.99 and not paying attention to all the haters i am VERY satisfied with its 1080 performance and ESPECIALLY its 4K gaming performance. With that being said, for the life of me i cannot get this card to work in ANY DirectX 11 TITLE WITHOUT RESETTING WITHIN FEW MINUTES SOMETIMES EVEN SECONDS OF THE TITLE BEING LAUNCHED. OpenGL works GREAT! DirectX 12 works PHENOMENAL!!! but the minute my DirectX 11 title launches my machine REBOOTS....ARRRG:mad::(
I can run Heaven Benchmark in OpenGL API all day, but God forbid i try to run it in DirectX11
I have set my bios to defaults, uninstalled and reinstalled Drivers and every version of them, i even removed the secondary GTX 960 card and ran DDU to clean from nvidia drivers and still the same. The only breakthrough i had was downgrading to the RX launch drivers that came out on the day RX Vega 64 was released, which allowed me to play some of my DX11 titles like Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3 and so on but i tried upgrading to the 17.9.2 and my pc is taking a S*&!T on every DX11 title. it becoming very frustrating. Is anyone else having this issue or maybe have a some sort of walkaround, or is there a BIOS anyone can recommend i can flash on this bad boy:confused::confused::confused::confused: PLEASE HELP!!!!
My system configuration is as follows

MSI X370 KRAIT GAMING AM4 AMD X370
AMD RYZEN 7 1700 8-Core 3.0 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo)
G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB 3200 (2 x 8GB) 14-14-14-34
PowerColor Radeon RX VEGA 64
Corsair XH850 Power Supply

Thanks in advance guys n gals

Try 17.9.1, as some are apparently having issues with that. I'm still on 17.9.1 myself (not seen the need to upgrade, and hearing of some issues ... well, I'll wait).

Had the same issues at launch. Figured out most crashes on the card are corrupt or missing Microsoft c++ files (red or blue screen freezes). Reinstall windows update Microsoft C++ then install latest drivers.

Are you using any other overclocking utilities ?

no i removed them all, and whats crazy is that OpenGL and DirectX12 API's are not effected only running DirectX11 does it encounter a reset.

i have tried every driver compatible with the RX Vega.

are you able to try the card in another machine, to rule out any OS specific issues.

Unfortunately no i am not :(

Yea i think you might be somewhat correct on this (at least i hope) on RX Vega owners thread AMDMatt suggested reinstalling windows altogether and updating to latest chipset drivers and Vega drivers. and on guru3d forums i had some suggestions to reinstalling DirectX & VCRedist 2005 up to 2015 as and if all fails also try down-clocking my core as some had problems with AMD cards in DX11 whenever the boost kicked in.

So i will try some of these suggestions tonight after work an will update everyone. Thanks Yall :D

Now i hit a wall :(. I did a clean win 10 install with all the c++ redistributables and DirectX Runtime and every update there is with the the latest 17.9.3 amd driver and now i cant even get DirectX 12 or OpenGL to run without crashing even with the 17.8.1 driver. Interestingly, as JonasBeckman mentioned, if i turn down the power level all the way down everything is stable while suffering a HUGE performance drop. Never have i had such a frustrating issue with any of my video cards i have previously owned (as they always have been NVIDIA cards since GeForce 4Ti 4400 and this is my first experience with AMD/ATI Hardware), and its getting to the point where I'm ready to pop my ASUS 960GTX STRIX back in my rig and tell AMD to SHOVE IT ....

Any suggestions?

Sorry for your problems, but, faulty cards happen. I never had any problems with GPUs from either side until I bought a 680 GTX and it took 3 RMA's before I got a working one. Thankfully I have had no problems since then.

As for your problem, it sounds like a faulty card and I would just return it and get a replacement.

thanks, yeah i just might have to do that. it was pointed out to me that it might be my power supply so im going to try my backup 750 watt supply first and if its still the same then i guess RMA is just what i will have to do

I am guessing that you have already tried the second BIOS on the card?

Is your PSU the new HX850 or the one released 5 years ago?

yep, latest bios and tried both switch positions. card works without crashing if i turn down power level in wattman to -20 and lower

the old version of HX850, i dont think its 5 years old but it is at least 3. I was using it with my i7 2700K before switching to the AMD side about a month ago lol

So.... I just want to THANK EVERYONE who helped me with my Vega 64 taking a Poo and crash rebooting my pc every time i try to run a game or benchmark. Never would i have thought to replace my Corsair HX850 PSU as it is the root of the problem. My Rig is now running fine with a spare back up Corsair GS700 (i thought it was a 750) which now isnt surprising as i was explained that just because it sais 850 doesnt mean it will output a clean steady flow of current/amps needed by Vega cards. I am so relieved and exited that i i don't have to RMA and just have to get a beefier and better built PSU. :D:D:D

now i can do some real gaming and benchmarks and once i get my prime series SeaSonic 1200 PSU even push this card to its limits.

Did the 750Watt one work?
sure did, it was actually a 700 but it works great..... thank u :D
