RX480 vs GTX1060

I had the GTX660 and have the GTX960 and the AMD competitors lasted longer. The HD7950/R9 280 also lasted longer than the GTX660TI and the GTX760.

Hence I would probably get an RX480 and the GSync price premium is quite significant.

You can get FreeSync monitors for £100 to £200.

I eagerly await the rx 480 becoming the fastest gpu of all time with all these vulkan and dx12 improvements. Will no doubt be 350% faster in 3 years time, just needs more driver updates.

So what would you guys say is the pick of the bunch for each of the two cards?

I know the Sapphire has been incredibly popular so far for the RX480, so there is probably little data on any other variant.

Whats the pick of the bunch on the GTX1060?

Around £250 is a reasonable price for a 1060. In that respect, the EVGA GTX 1060 SC is the best overall GTX 1060 to get.

Agreed, EVGA 1060 SC is the pick of the bunch for me. I have a Palit Dual 1060 which was £250, but I only ended up with this due to low stock soon after launch day, if I could swap to the SC I would! The Palit is still a good card, overclocks over 2100mhz and quiet on my fan profile, but EVGAs customer service and warranty is better.

Mostly. Freesync range varies from monitor to monitor, though. Most of them lose Freesync functionality if the game dips below 48fps. Some have minimums of 40hz and some 30hz and the tech can *technically* go even lower, but still - the way many monitors have it implemented limit its usefulness.

Gsync always works down to 30fps. And being that 30-60fps is probably where variable refresh rates have the most impact, it's kind of important. That said, Freesync monitors with a 40hz minimum are also not bad. Anything less than 40fps and you're probably not gonna be that happy anyways.

Freesync also lacks the ability to run in Windowed mode, whereas Gsync can.

Used to* since AMD added LFC Low Framerate Compensation Freesync now keeps working even below the freesync range.

Its not just dx12 and Vulkan. The 480 will most probably go past the 1060 in dx11 as well.

Probably will yeah, if we all sit in a circle and hold hands and 'hope' you never know what it might do!

480 is currently a good 40% below 1060 in dx11 benchmarks like the Heaven thread. That's a lot of hoping:D

More like up to 20% faster from a bit slower if you look at the last 3 or 4 generations.

Just needs more driver updates on both sides, AMD supporting legacy, nVidia not so much. Are you saying this hasn't been documented yet?

Just to be finicky here. The anand figures are based on launch day drivers. The current ones are faster, especially in tomb raider where it's now on par with the 1060.
