RX8 - R.I.P.... or is she?

Just buy an RX7 FD3. For what you're spending its the better option plus its likely to hold its value. A modified rx8 on the other hand wont. Plus you avoid all of the inevitable headaches of an engine swap.

Yeah if a non rotary engine swap isn't up your street, then I'd get rid of the RX8 and go to the RX7.

Now would be the best time to do so

That's what I would do, a nice example RX7 is only going to go up in value surely?

But if you are really attached to the '8 and it has sentimental value then no one will be really able to convince you otherwise.

Sold my RX7 pushing 10 years ago, still probably worth what I sold it for, i lost nothing in the time I owned it, and i miss it :( (not the race clutch it had though!)

Mine and my friends cars... he still has his though! Pic!

My '8 (I'll call her Bessy) broke down a few months back. Smoke, and no power going to the wheels when I pressed the pedal. I feared the worst and was so sad as I love that car and thought it was toast. AA towed it to the garage and to my delight they got it going just as good as new with new plugs and a new ignition coil. Happy driving for a few weeks once back from hols until yesterday when the same thing happened and the AA had to come again. Smoke from the bonnet and exhaust this time. Garage told me this time it has flooded which is weird as I was driving 40-50 mph when the loss of transmission happened as I changed gear downwards on a bend. £25 to get her working again (chuffed that it was so little) but wondering if writing is on the wall.

I've really enjoyed that car and have not a clue what I will replace it with in a year or two assuming it gets that far. For the money (14k in 2009 with 300 miles on the clock) it was brilliant and remains hard to beat. So much car for the money. Other than new oil lines 6 months ago the car had been faultless in 5 1/2 years of ownership. Despite recent problems I do believe these cars are great if we'll maintained. To the OP, fire in a new engine if you love the car. It's not all that much in greater scheme of things!

Stick a K20 in it, will be closest thing to stock engine being a high revving N/A engine.

If this is possible (read: sensible), a thousand times this. Or an F20C. Would that work?

If not, well, I think it's time for her to go to pugheaven.

YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!

By amazing you mean "alright"... And by rough you mean "sodding terrible"...sure :D yeah that's not a good sounding car

:D

I concur. A standardish one with a decent exhaust at least sounds good and not like it will eventually grenade itself (which it will anyway). Such a frustrating car, could have been so good, but if it was you wouldn't be able to pick up a decent one for 2 grand or whatever they cost these days.

I properly loved the way the RX8 looked when they were first on the road. Just a shame they're quite likely such lame ducks.

We can rebuild her. We have the technology...

Stick another new/rebuilt Renesis in and abuse her. ;)

I still have my '8 as I cant find anything I want to swap to. It makes me smile every time I drive it.
