Hi all,

I've just booked the flights for our 'boys' trip to Dublin in May.

Aside from their silly charges for pretty much everything possible, i've got a quick question to anyone that has flown with Ryanair (within the UK on a Driving Licence as I.D).

There are a couple of us going with Driving Licences as they don't have passports. I've had a read about online check-in, and it states that passengers travelling with Driving Licences as form of ID can't check on online.

Does this mean that they just have to check in at the check-in desks at the Airport instead?

I can't go further with the online check-in as it has to be 15 days before flying to complete the online check-in.

Cheers,

Phil.

Gah, Dublin isn't in the UK, but up to October 1st 2009 you can travel there with your Driving Licences/Photo ID :)

Not sure if any other Airlines operate the same policy, but looks like they are phasing it out to just Passports at the tail end of this year :)

My dad just said he thought Irish nationals could get here without a passport, would make sense the other way too.

For British and Irish citizens who are travelling on flights to/from the United Kingdom, to/from the Republic of Ireland (Common Travel Area), a valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID.

FROM THE 1ST OCTOBER 2009 ONWARDS DRIVING LICENCES WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTABLE PHOTO-ID ON RYANAIR FLIGHTS.

A valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID for travel on domestic flights. (Please note that driving licences are not accepted when passengers are using online check-in)

The bold bit is the original question i was referring to :)

Was there not an option to travel the entire way on a peddle boat? It would be more comfortable and less stressful than using Ryanair.

I've just found that out after booking online, that was enough of a pain and we've not even arrived at the Airport yet :o

I might not fly often but my Father flies probably 50 times a year so I get to listen to the moans of all the various airlines :p

I don't particularly ever find it a pleasurable experience.

Even when you get on the plane, you have to sit through however long of children whinging and screaming/shouting throughout the entire flight.

Ok, found out now, passengers travelling with Photo ID in the form of a Driving Licence have to check in at the Airport and pay yet another fee.

At least it isnt that far to Dublin I guess, hour or two?

45 minutes on a good day.

I'm going to visit the gf at the end of April, no more Ryanair for me. Going to try Aer Lingus. Probably no better, but at least they refrain from the PR suicide crusade that Ryanair appears to be on.

There's taking liberties with pricing, and theres sticking their finger up at their customers whilst they do it.

If Ryanair ever succeed in taking over Aer Lingus, I'm going to ****ing swim instead.

I fly quite a bit and I have to agree with Fox.... Ryan Air sucks, in my experience.

Luckily Easy Jet have recently taken over the route LGW to MPL to compete with Ryan Air's LTN to MPL.... just a shame that Ryan Air have now opened up Bristol too, which is much more convenient for me to fly from. I'm now stuck between flying from Bristol with a sucky airline or driving all the way to Gatwick but at least not having to endure flying with Ryan Air.
