Ryanair Seat Allocation question.

I'm flying with Ryanair on Thursday. I have booked myself and a friend on one booking and another friend booked himself.

Does anyone know how their seat allocation system works? If we both checked in online at the same time would be allocated seats together or is it totally random?

If it is random, we'll just ask at check in if we can sit with each other and if that fails we'll see if we can move on the plane.

I would just check in now, but I don't have one persons passport number and this question will bug me all night!

Unless you've paid extra for allocated seats (which Ryanair introduced recently) it's everyman for himself when they announce the gate. You'll soon work out which gate the plane is leaving from when you see 100+ people running in that direction.

My girlfriend recently flew with them and everyone in their party had an allocated seat even though they didn't book it.

No offence to your girlfriend but I doubt it very much. Someone would have paid for allocated seats or she's mistaken.

I fly all the time with Ryanair (family in Spain) and it's every man for themselves unless you paid extra for allocated seating. Even with priority boarding it's everyman for himself albeit you get on the plane before the plebs.

I'm pretty sure it was Ryanair, but I'll double check. I remember being surprised you got seat allocations because I always thought it was a free for all.

Just sent her a text.

I think EasyJet have been experimenting with allocated seating for free on some routes.

She just told me it was Easyjet (through Thomas Cook).

Right, worry over. I'm a total nazi when it comes to getting to airpots in plenty of time so I'm sure we'll get one of the first lot of boarding card numbers so we'll get a seat together.

My fault, I'm an idiot.

Thanks .Griff. & POB.

What you need in this situation is a ferret like girlfriend who weaves in and out of the plebs, gets two seats, then defends them like a lion. Works every time :)

But that would involve having to go on holiday with the girlfriend Brookert! GOD NO! This is the only week of a year I get some peace and quiet! :p

Ryan Air is free for all but its not as if its going to leave with out you, let the lemmings run and take the extra time to relax

Easyjet have their Priority Boarding scheme which you pay extra per passenger for, buts it not allocated seats you just get on first.

Flybe allow you to seat select on their website but its £6.50 a skull.

oh and before I forget if your printing your return trip boarding passes - do it on separate sheet, not on the back of the other, they will charge you to reprint them at check in.

The key is to book one person in your party with priority booking and send them on to nab the good seats (ie the emergency exit seat which have more leg room or the front, right hand side seats which have miles of leg room and are beside the loos). You just need to make sure that they have no qualms about stepping on small children to get the seats :p

As said above, every man for themselves. The best ones is when you have to get on the Hopper bus to the plane, and when the doors open everyone runs for the stairs. Some people have no concept that you aren't going to get to your destination any faster, and you don't have to be the first on to secure your party some seats. There's over 60 rows!!

If you haven't booked and paid for an allocated seat then you all pile on and fill up the plane at random.
I used them for the first time to go to Lanzarote over the Easter weekend.
They file you on and try to get you to fill up the plane from the rear.
If you are the very last on then yes, pickings are slim as everyone has tried to sit together and the only seats left are singles, so try and be near the back of the queue to get on but not right at the back.
That way you'll end up sat near the front.... if you're lucky. ;)

Just stick together and sit down together if you must hold hands for the duration of the flight.
Otherwise MTFU and sit where ever is available

Yea, not a huge issue but it's nice to travel with friends. Have better chat and all that. As I said above, I got mixed up with airlines.

Book with a decent airline instead. You'll be surprised how often the fares can be nearly identical

'Decent' airlines were at least £150 more expensive. I have no issue with Ryanair.

I flew with them Friday and Saturday to Dublin and back on a group booking, but I paid for the extra leg room seats for my wife and I when I checked in online and to me it was money well spent. You board first, you get settled whilst everyone else rushes and the most important aspect you put your minimal hand baggage allowance over you seat not 10 seat back/forward. They cancelled our flight back so we were delayed for 3 bloody hours, something I have not experienced in my bi-weekly flights to Dublin with Air Lingus. They are cheap no question, but they also have poor customer service and in Birmingham airports case, **** gate assistants with a serious attitude, not towards me just the way they dealt with some of the people at the gate.

Ryanair is a cheap no frills product.
For me the plane was clean, the procedure was quick and efficient, it departed on time and arrived on time... You don't ask for more really.
The only "erk" was the constant "buy this ****ty overpriced ryanair product" bull up and down the isle multiple times per flight.

What mainly ****s it up is morons taking baggage that clearly wont fit their test equipment and then moaning like **** about it.. and believe me they are VERY strict on this so make sure your hand luggage fits well inside their stated measurements or you'll easily find yourself with a £50 bill for them to carry it and they take no **** from anyone about it.
