Ryzen 1600 AF

I have one currently sitting on my coffee table, that will be going into a system tomorrow. From what I've seen it behaves exactly like a 2600 -200mhz but I will know more after tomorrow :)

I'm looking to maybe do a build with one of these now as I'm on a tight budget. Am I right in saying that for tasks such as Video Editing and general PC tasks, not gaming, the 1600AF is a better option to go for than the Ryzen 5 3400G?

There are a couple of threads in the cpu section here and here. It seems to be a very impressive cpu for the money but prices seem to have increased by quite a bit since the news broke about this cpu. *** competitor hint removed *** there are only a couple of other places I can find that are actually listing it as YD1600BBAFBOX.

As long as you have a gpu then one of these would be a much better choice than a 3400G due to having more cores and threads.

I was looking to do a build around a 1600 AF but I struggled to find one and when I did locate one the cost was nearly £100 at that price you might as well spend another £7 and get the 2600

Very true, it's where do you stop though! Too easy to go for the 2600 and then say the 2700 is only another £20! I nearly got the 3600 when it was on offer at £145 on Friday night..... Really trying to stick to my budget though! If I go for a 1600/2600 it only leaves me with about £130 for a GPU, which will suffice for now as I'm not a heavy gamer by any means and from the reviews I've read, that setup is better than a 3400G.

I think you will find that may be the AE model as it says had a Wraith Spire cooler and the AF comes with the Wraith Stealth. UNless they just copied and pasted the original specs.

Is it worth going from a 1700 to the 1600AF? I got the 1700 for peanuts (£40) and coupled it with a RX580. Would I see any benefit in gaming?

Only had a bit of a play so far, but yeah, its just a 2600 downclocked.
Comes with the wraith stealth instead of the spire, but it cools it fine.
It boosts to 3.7 stock so that's a hair higher than the 1600. Haven't had a go at OCing yet.

My very short review is that for the price its a stonkingly good chip, but I wouldn't want to pay more than £100, and idealy not more than £90, as at that point its probably worth just getting the 2600 for the better stock clocks and possibly better bin

I've got the AF on my watch list, got RAM as it was on a deal, board and CPU will come probs end of Feb, but these do seem to be the cheap build of choice CPU at the mo, given I'm coming from an i7-3770S anythings an upgrade lol

Picked this CPU up yesterday for £79 on a deal so looking forward to trying it out. Hoping for good things as my current PC is a 10 year old dual core and laptop is an i5-7200U, so expecting this to be marginally quicker LOL

What board are people using these on, I'm looking at the Asrock Steel Legend B450M mATX, or the MSI Mortar Max mATX..

Tomahawk max, basically very similar to the Mortar Max. Very happy with it and it's future proof for if I want to upgrade the CPU in the future.

I'm not looking for a cheap board to pair with a cheap chip, I tend to overspend on motherboards a bit so I know its going to last, as I'll pull the 1600AF when its getting slow and look at something higher up the range, so the board needs to take it.
Did I also read that the Pro4/Pro4F dont boot from m.2/NVME? Or was that just something I missed?

Can't go wrong with the tomahawk max, best of the B450 mobo's. No issues booting from NVMe either.
