wait until June 16th when the B550 motherboards are released and support that CPU out of the box, current B450 x570 you will probably have to flash the bios first using an older chip
any idea on price?

I'm also waiting for the B550 to be released before I decide what do for a friend's build; but I'm expecting to go with a B450 board though, as the B550 prices look to be a quite an increase over the B450 equivalents, at least judging by post #109 https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/33636915I
If those prices are indeed fairly accurate and we can expect a $ to £ equivalent, then many boards are going to work out £50 more expensive than the B450 variant. Those are just MSI boards, but all B550 boards will be more expensive.
If you do decide to go with a B450, then an MSI MAX board will be the best bet, as they come Ryzen 3000 ready, so no flashing required. With non MAX boards or boards from other brands, then you'll likely have to flash the BIOS in order to use a Ryzen 3000 CPU. That's the main reason why I went with a MSI Mortar MAX when I built my current PC with a 3600. It's a good board anyway, but being Ryzen 3000 ready saves a load of hassle.

i didn't think 3300x work on b450 ?

I don't see the point going b450 this close to b550 release
I might be going B550 3300x or 3600 soon myself only a few days til b550,i'll probably go with the extra cores tbh definitely a fps low minimums different between 4/8 and 6/12 on more cores friendly games.
But even then there's a refresh isn't there what if theres a 5ghz 3600 ?
If im going for ultimate bang for buck though im still looking at a 1600 af on cheapest possible board that can do 4+ghz and 3200 mhz ram reliably i think a 4ghz + 1600 af probably enough for a few years

The point of B450 is it will save a lot of cash over the B550 and that cash can go to a better CPU or Gpu that will add a performance benefit right now rather than on pcie gen 4 where 95% of users won't see any benefit at all.
Quite a few MSI MAX boards support 3300X with the first BIOS release. Mortar MAX does require a slightly later BIOS version. Still a July 2019 BIOS release though. Any new Mortar MAX board bought today not supporting 3300X, would have to be very old stock.
3700X and 3800X are compatible with MSI MAX motherboards out of the box.
That would make sense if the B550 boards just replaced the B450 equivalents for similar price, but if US prices of MSI boards are correct, then B550 boards could be significantly more expensive than the B450 model equivalent.
Certainly best for anyone to wait though seeing as the release of these boards is so close, see what the UK prices are like, then a more informed decision can be made.
There is a 3600XT coming, but no chance of 5GHz. Rumours are suggesting an increase of 400MHz, so around 4GHz base clock and 4.6GHz boost.
you say that but £120 vs £140 ish for a b550 ? i could have ordered the gigabyte b550 gaming x for £140 last night
Decent B450 start at around 80 quid so that's £60 extra for the Gpu or 2 extra cores for the CPU.
Would you be buying a gen4 nvme to go with it to use the pcie gen4 that you just paid the premium for as that's another £60 over gen 3?.

well you say that but everyone says theres only 2 good b450 boards the tomahawk and mortar
The Asrock pro4 and pro4m are generally considered to be decent boards and come in at around £80 or just under. Although tbh most B450 would happy run 4, 6 and 8 core CPUs which is generally what people on a budget will go for, the tomahawk and mortar are able to handle more so have the option of 12 and 16 core upgrades a few years down the line.

At current 3300x prices i wouldn't bother, 3600 can be had for £10-20 more.
indeed not to mention the lack of stock and delays high prices for b550 im going b450 and 3600 now trying to decide on the ram seems it's a minefield for ram out there lots of stuff that wont do its claimed speeds

Same, was holding out to get a look at B550 prices but after seeing them im going with a B450 and a 3600 instead.
