Ryzen 3600 Noise

Running the latest Ryzen Master. Cannot see anywhere to change the fan settings though

I used to get a buzzing sound which I eradicated by tidying some cables up

The whirring sound however started after I upgraded from a 2400g to the 3600
The only thing I can think is i smudged a tiny bit of paste off the heatsink whilst installing it ? Or would this not affect the noise ? Im sure its ok though because my temps are stable and fine.
 
Latest chipset fixed boost & idling windows power profiles, which from his comment says that using the Windows low power profile.



That means you do not have positive airflow into the case. You need fans blowing fresh air in the case and more than one of them.
That would keep temps low also.

Temps are fine at the moment ( 38c idle / 62c gaming )
Forgot to say I have a RX580 which has two big fans on it which I can control via the afterburner app

Even worse as those fans recycle hot air inside the case. You need to add some fans blowing cold air into the case.
As for the paste, you need to make sure you have spread it across the 3600 surface, as the chips is not at the centers but to the sides. (the cores are the smaller die to the right top side).

The paste was already applied onto the heatsink when i got it out the box

That will make zero difference in this scenario, if it’s a noise that increases in frequency when the fan ramps up, the first thing you check is the fan and anything that may be interfering with it. Lowering the rpm to reduce the number of times the fan hits whatever it’s hitting just makes it take longer to wear through whatever cable or damage a fan blade, cable repair and replacement fans are a lot more involved than bothering to do the most basic level of fault finding at this stage.
 
Not sure if your problem is what I had which was the temps keep spiking into the 60's under small loads which caused the fans to ramp up. What I did was make a custom fan profile so this does not happen.

Another thing you can do is use Ryzen Master and try and experiment with lower voltages. Like I can do 4.2GHz all core on 1.15v and guess what? The temps do not go nowhere near as high vs stock settings which keep using 1.44v for small workloads which causes temps to spike.

In the end for me it has nothing to do with cooling, my cooling actually seems better than most from what I can see. Just the way Ryzen is setup on stock settings was my issue with the fan profile that came with my mobo.

My Temps range from 36c to 40c, never any higher unless gaming

Would upgrading the BIOS make any difference ? The version im running is from 2/3months ago ( Version F41 )

It may, but if those are your temps then I doubt your issue is the same as mine.

I installed the latest ABBA BIOS the same day I got my mobo. But if you do not want to do it twice in a small time frame I suggest waiting for the new 1.0.0.4 AGESA BIOS which is not far away now.
 
Some fans will generate some weird noise at some (random) speed. Got few fans that are quieter up to 40% and from 50 to 60% band. But a bit more than 40% and less than 50% gives se oscillating noise. But other similar fans don't.
 
Also make sure you adjust the fan curve and set some delay, let's say 5 or 10 seconds, so the fan don't simply increase/decrease it's speed every single micro peak.
 
If I want to stop a fan inside my case I just hold my finger on the centre and to stop it then when I'm done give it a shove to get it going again. This is what I'd be doing first to make sure it is the fan. Get your head in there with a torch as well to make sure nothing is touching the blades.

Checked with a torch this morning to make sure nothings touching the fan blades.

The only thing I can think is either its normal for it to make some noise in high performance mode or one of the tiny spare cables tucked away ( right at the bottom ) is slightly touching the case. Tried my best to push them in and away from the case.
 
The default cooler paste wasn't enough to fill my 3600's wonky concave base. I needed to put proper paste on it to get rid of the whine.

The cooler still isn't really good enough if you want to leave the default package setting at 88w.

Didn't know the paste could affect the noise it makes , My paste must be ok if my temps are fine ?

If its the heatsink making the noise how would the paste affect it ?

Which paste would you recommend ?
 
Good point. I missed your 40c temp post.

When I restated mine, I'd noticed an inbalance on the number of corner screw rotations between the corners. My fan had a whine when verticle aligned, but not horizontal regardless of temperature. After the re-paste the whine went away. I'd taken more care to roughly keep turns equal.
