One thing I always find with CPU reviews for gaming is that they focus entirely on frames per second.
Now personally, I play a lot of simulation games - Football Manager, Civilisation, Crusader Kings, Total War etc. - Games where the FPS isn't really what you are looking for, but CPU will have a large effect on the speed you can play the game while the game processes in the background.
I think that it is a real shame that when reviewing CPU performance, pretty much across the board the reviews seem to focus on whether a new CPU will give you 10-20 FPS in the latest shooter, rather than whether it will significantly reduce processing times in games that are processor rather than graphics driven.
Just as a basic example, a new CPU (Ryzen 3600 to 5800x) might net you zero FPS increase in Football Manager, but allow you to run double the number of active leagues increasing the game world imersion, without any increase in processing time, or dramatically decrease the time between turns in end game Civilisation 6.
The focus on FPS when reviewing CPUs can be misleading depending on the type of gaming you do.
