Ryzen 5800x or Intel i9 10850K

Decided to not upgrade CPU. Just bought a GPU and my wallet is so light that I want to cry.

I think you made the best move, GFX update if you managed to actually find one somewhere in the Uk is probably the way forward, then wait for the forthcoming price drops :)
I did it the other way round, couldn;t find GFX stock, so bought the 5900x at 499, and await stock of its rx friends.

Why does power usage matter, if you are that poor maybe don't spend so much on your computer?

To the op best to write down you usage cases and take a look at YouTube for comparison videos then work out the costs and decide.

I have a 3800x and the only thing stopping me upgrading to 5900 is the fact I'm cheap and only watch YouTube / browse Internet so have no reason but I will upgrade eventually

Are you familiar with PSUs? If not, they have a max power rating. Selecting a power efficiency CPU gives more headroom for if next gen GPUs need more power for instance. I'm an ITX enthusiast and would rather not have to spend extra money on unnecessary PSU upgrades.

5800x easily the better option, specially if you can afford a couple hours to tweak it/undervolt it which even a newbie like me managed without any trouble.

I was recently in the same boat and ended up going with the 10850k which I got a good deal on.

Performance wise it’s great! No complaints in gaming or rendering.

Thanks guys. The weekend deal of the 5900x sealed all dilemma. I went for AMD as I wanted to use SAM with my 6900XT. The price difference between the 10850k and the 5900x due to the offer was around £100. I know that £100 is not by any means small but I think it was worth the extra.

Higher per core performance, half the power consumption and 2 more cores yes i too think it is worth the extra £100, it would be nice if these CPU's were cheap but in reality these are the best of the best CPU's you can get right now and AMD are selling everything they make and then some... £510 right now on OCUK is a reasonable price for what it is. :)
