Ryzen 9000 and memory tuning

Hello everyone,

This may be a strange question, but is there any information online about the impact of memory tuning on gaming FPS with the Ryzen 9000 series? I’ve searched a lot, but only found a Hardware Unboxed video about the Ryzen 7000, where DDR5 timings were tuned.

I’m mainly curious whether even tighter timings have a noticeable impact on games with the 9000 series.

I’m not only looking per se for professional reviews, but also for tests from regular users. I’m especially interested in the memory speed, timings and latency and the fps gain in your games. Is mainly about a 2-stick, 16 GB setup.

I’m also curious about experiences with memory below the “sweet spot” and overclocking to the sweet spot. For example, is it possible to overclock a 5600 MHz kit to 6000 MHz with tighter timings in a stable way? Or I need do buy the more expensive ram?

Thanks in advance!

This test includes frequencies, but not timings, it does give you an idea of their impact though, since there's a decent number of kits included. Note that this is only relevant to non-X3D CPUs:

Yeah, it depends on the ICs, but 5200-5600 kits can usually be overclocked easily. not that I'd recommend messing with them right now, with memory prices as they are. Buildzoid did a fair bit of DDR5 overclocking with previous gen CPUs, though I haven't been looking at his channel lately.

Thank you for your response. Hmm, this website escaped my attention. Although it provides a good indication of how tuned memory is performing, I still miss information about the latency.

It's all about the ICs. The ratings by the manufacturer mean very little beyond what they loosely guarantee to work.

If you have a kit with good ICs, it will clock as generally well as those ICs do unless you get a crappy one. You could get a golden one that beats the average. This is the nature of overclocking.

Theres not much in it when it comes to gaming perf tbh but you can tune them for better latency. About the lowest latency kits you can buy are probably any kit which is rated 6000 CL26 at 8.5ns, all those in the techpowerup test linked above run around 9.5ns. I have a basic 5600 CL40 kit from Klevv which at stock config is 14.2ns, now overclocked to 6600 CL26 giving 7.8ns. Does it make a difference in gaming for me, nah not at all tbh but i do like running synthetic benchmarks etc which is why i do it.

you can check ram latency here https://notkyon.moe/ram-latency2.htm

I need some help with timings. I finally managed to build my pc.

I was wondering if my timings could be tuned even better to get the maximum out of gaming with the 9950x. I think there is still room for improvement, especially the latency. What do you think? If you have any questions, please let me know. Any advice is welcome.
