Ryzen Memory choice hell

I love spec'ing new pc builds for friends but memory choices drives me to despair. Worse now I'm planning my own new build. It's a slow build over a couple of months to allow for budget going Ryzen 3700X in the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite mobo. Same mobo/chip combo that fitted my friends budget in the USA but I cannot decide which memory to use but since prices are so good right now it makes sense to get that up front.
I want 32GB and I'm thinking 3200mhz seems the sweet spot, no real plans to overclock but I might be persuaded one day.
My budget is £180 at the top end.

I recently won 16gb of Ballistics Sport LT ram from a stream (TAG, not their fault but 3 months later still not delivered.. )) which seems pretty good from the thread I've looked at in here so would it be an idea just to match it up with another set of 16gb or sell it and buy a full 32gb set of the same stuff? Do I go with the Ryzen tuned stuff? Help me!!

I am in a similar boat like you and hence why i posted another thread asking about wether i should get the g.skill trident Neo or something else.

In my general investigation about ram, at least ryzen 3000 series is not prone to be as picky as the previous generations. But i want to squeeze out of the processor as much as it can give, and hence why you need a Ram kit that can hit 3600 sweet spot, if you can hit 3733 or even better 3800mhz - provided that the IF of the chip can do 1900 then you will get most out of your processor.

But is it worth it that much? In my example i was looking between the two 2x16GB trident Neo kits, both specced at CL16, but one has better timings than the other. From what i gathered one is hynix i think and the better dearer one is Samsung.

I have found the first one around 190ish while the later is close to 290 if not more. Is it worth it to fork an extra 100 for potentially better timings and maybe some better OC? I personally don't think so, in my case i would put the extra 100 towards a better processor or towards another component etc.

That ram you have or will get i read lots of good stuff about it and this forum has a lot of good info on it. It can clock to 3600 with good timings as long as you know how to OC it. If you dont need the 32GB i would just start with that, its a really good kit and possibly get another kit of 2 in the future, mind you unless its the Taichi x570 with t-topology i think the other mobos possibly won't OC as high with 4 kits. Of course this is my general knowledge of what i have been gathering from various source, never had the kit or a x570 mobo yet so haven't had the chance to test the above. If you do need 32GB, then sell them and get a bigger same kit.

Thanks for the reply. Yup it’s definitely a lot to sift through. Cheers dude. Adding that to the pile of info tumbling around my cluttered head.

+1 for Ballistix. Why you need 32 btw?

Started getting back into video editing and working with some memory hungry programs. Not at a professional level but the extra ram definitely helps. Also that mess of an alpha Star Cit enjoys it. Upped my current 4770k system to 32gb of 1600mhz ram (she’s getting on but still capable) and haven’t had issues with it since

i would get 2x16gb of the ballistix and sell on the one you won if it ever arrives. think its about £145 for that kit, maybe wait till black friday for a deal possibly.

:D Seems like the consensus is for the Ballistix then :D I’ll be looking at PSU & case deals around the Black Friday deals. Memory will get ordered sooooon. Thanks again for the replies. Never enjoyed boning up on ram so this has been a help

If you haven't bought already I'm hoping for some decent Black Friday bundles being offered by OCUK.

My current 6 core i7 5820K, X99 mobo, RAM, storage + cooling was an all in bundle. I'm tempted to switch to an 8 core AMD system if they do a smilar deal. If 8 Pack is involved you should get a compatible bundle with OC settings supplied as well.

I've never been much of an RGB fanboy but with the Aorus board at the heart of the new build it won't hurt to have a bit of pretty. Really torn now. Might get these and also test with the 16GB Ballistix kit. Can't see them losing much value.

The anticipation is high. First personal build in 5 years. Watching my mates system boot up first time after helping him build it over discord the other day was the final straw so this has to happen lol

Do it do it do it!
I am on same pc since 2008 apart from changing gpus lol and putting a better processor of that time though in 2012 (q9550). I can't wait anymore to upgrade got a vega 56 and the frame drops are stupid on 1080p. Funny enough it runs as it should in 4k so maybe i should stay in that setup :P.

Waiting on the 3950x for ages its not fun any more.

I’ll be happy with the 6 or 8 core options up front with budget restrictions but knowing I’ll have the 12 & 16 core choice down the line is mmmmmmhh! Pulled the trigger on the Corsair stuff, OCUK got me cold with that offer :D:D
