So i am wanting to buy a new computer and i want to use it for gaming i wouldnt mind have the option to stream but atm its mainly for gaming, i game in 1080p and i have a gtx 1070 i wouldnt mind getting a 1440p monitor in the future but i dont know when or if its even worth it?

So im struggling to decide to i go for a good intel cpu the i7 8700k or save money and go for Ryzen 5 1600 or maybe even the 1700 but i have no clue what is best and would love some advice thanks

Well here is my 2 pence worth.

Ryzen offers better bang for buck performance over intels offering when all of the ryzen cores are used that is.

Intel offers better single core performance which is good for old games.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X/3937vs3916

So yeah, 1800x vs 8700k, the 1800x is a tiny bit faster (when all 8 cores/threads are used) when put up against 8700k when all of its cores threads are used.

1800x costs £300 or £360 for the 8700k.

Too be honest i'd go with the 8700k because i play old games and 8700k is great for this.

If you go ryzen then you need at least 3000mhz ram because ryzen loves fast ram.

Well i play a few old games but i do want to play new games e.g battlefield 1, pubg what cpu would be best for that, stuff like new assassins creed also but yeah i play old games too

Personally i recommend the 8700k for games really, from all that i have studied and all the advice we find on forums it has to be the 8700k.

So what processor/cpu would be best eh, i fully recommend the 8700k because it has faster ipc/instructions per clock, games would benefit more from the i7 8700k then a ryzen equivalent regarding ipc.

but i'm looking to have this pc for a good 4-5 years do you think games will come out in that time that would use more cores than what the 8700k actually has

Well to be frank there are people who still rock on with a 2500k and still has enough power to play games well enough.

As for the 8700k yes it is future proof and i have no doubt in my mind that it would last you 4 or 5 years and as more games use the extra cores yes indeed.

i have the i5 3570k with a gtx 1070 and cant play bf1 in ultra i only get 40-50 fps so thats why im a bit worried if i got the i7 8700k

Well too be frank i think (correct me if i am wrong) it all revolves around the gpu you have.

People here go with a weaker cpu and spend more on the gpu so yeah.

I have the EVGA gtx 1070 ftw version and on bf1 on ultra i cant run it 1080p, so that is the main reason im worried about the i7 8700k as this i5 cant run it at all and i think theres only 2 added cores on the 8700k i might be wrong, so i do think would that last and still run games okay obviously gpu in 5 years may need to be updated etc but i have a really good 1 now and cant run bf1

Have you played the game at the lowest resolution and lowest graphic setting to see if it is the gpu bottlenecking?

Anyways take what i say with a pinch of salt.

Shame about your experience with bf 1, anyways yeah i think 40-50fps is alright fps i think.

How would i know if its bottlenecked? When i see videos with ryzen or newer intel they all smash over 60fps with a gtx 1070 and other games i do really good but nope bf1 hates me lol

Yeah well i don't know if this helps you but i underscore in benchmarks and i have gtx 1070 with 7600k processor and am at the bottom of the charts regarding pc benchmarks so i think it must be the motherboard(?) limiting the performance i don't know.

Well i have no clue i hope someone knows how to help you.

How would you know if gpu is bottleneck well see your average fps see if it higher then 40-50fps and yea i also think about how well the game is optimised as well, software wise.

So yea if you still get the same fps on lowest resolution and graphic setting then the cpu is the bottleneck if not then the gpu is the bottleneck, if you get higher than 40-50fps also you would know the cpu utilisation usage percent that is or gpu i think.

Anyways in the future (next month) i'll be upgrading to a 7700k, so if you want a free 7600k let me know okay?

You would also need to get a 1151 motherboard(maybe a cheap one) or not because i think you don't have ddr4 ram.

I play 1080 but i wouldnt mind going to 1440 soon when i save for a monitor
What cpu would i get the longest out off?

I've never had any preference for AMD or Intel, I've had both over the years... but for gaming today I'd go intel all the way. I play a lot of pube-g with my mates and my ancient cr4ppy old x5650 (at 4.4ghz) with my 1070ti gets noticeably higher frame rates than my buddies Ryzen 1700 and Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 1080 and we're running identical resolution and in game graphics settings. Even using reshade which cost a few FPS my setup runs higher frames. Everything I read on the 8700k is that it blows all the Ryzens away for gaming. That would be where my money would be going if I was looking to upgrade today.

Just for reference
I play battlefield 1 on
An old i5 750 lynchfield with a
zotac amp extreme gtx1080

My resolution is 3440x1440 and my graphics settings are all at medium I have no problem playing this title.
