Hello.
It may sound that this is same story comparing I5 to Ryzen 5 but actually I am torn between I3 or Ryzen 5 2600 ...Looking at the performance they are very similar but what about future proofing?
I am not talking future proofing so games will use more cores later etc ...specifically socket proofing. According to AMD they will use AM4 to 2020 so few years ...and looking at Intel they possibly will change to a new socket and that sux ...stability I can comment on both as not sure....do coffee lake require additional patches and fafin about the drivers under win10 or as most stuff its pain free?
MB wise I think B450 or H370 are the once for me not planning ocing but would like to have some nice features (wifi BT - as looking at Mini ITX build+zotac 1060) Which one not sure
Gaming only 2-3 games that are not so demanding (wow overwatch,witcher@1080p)

Last time I have used AMD was a long time ago with DX4 :P and later Athlons ...since then was Intel but have no problem changing if it works without a hassle ....

AM4 is generally the better option future wise.
Although, as you only require relatively low to mid range performance either platform will give you plenty of headroom.
So unless the AM4 platform lacks features that you wish I'd go with that.
One advantage that Intel has currently is a 6C CPU with an iGPU.

The only think that puts me off a little from AMD is lack of good priced itx or mini ATX boards and ram problems ( although as I read that mostly been resolved now)....and as for the iGpu I could not care lessst the moment.

BIOSTAR X470GTN AM4 is mITX at around £113. After that there are the more expensive Asus and Asrock solutions in mITX

On mATX you can buy good B450 boards for less than £90..... Like the B450 mortar Asrock Pro 4 etc, all way down to £65 Astock B450 HDV.

ASRock have some awesome ITX boards.

The only real advantage Intel has in this battle is an iGPU but other than that, AMD’s 2600 is the way to go in my view.
The 2600 also has a better stock cooler (Wraith Stealth) while the i3 K models does not even come with one.

Not seeing a point to go I7 or Ryzen 7 even if I can as that would be just waste...

That should be ok butmissing WiFi which I need. Always there are pciex cards I suppose..

Hmm found on rainforest...ASRock B450 Gaming/AC AM4 M-ITX HDMI/DP DDR4 Retail...now to find cheaper than £124...
On this....is there a cooling kit to go for for this CPU ? So many options fractal, CM, NZXT, Corsair etc....if case will support 240 ( Fractal Design Define Nano S) is it better to go for that one (or it would be overkill) or sigle 120-140 will be more than enough?

And where in UK to buy Biostar?

The AMD Cpus are coming with an excellent cooler, no need to buy a new one and at £124 buy the Asrock board mate.

I have a mini-ITX system and I am moving towards getting a Ryzen 5 2600/2600X as a replacement for my Xeon E3 1230 V2. The Biostar X470 one was under £100 from another UK retailer but has vanished from the UK now which was rather inconvenient. Looking at the alternatives, the MSI and Asus B450 ones look the best bet for me,as they have the best VRMs.

It seems I like it what I see there and that would be the choice ….as for memory ...still have to be careful for the ryzen system? or any "good" will do ...like this set:

or from ran forest as example for similar £:
Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP 2.0

Cheers

I wouldn't get the ASRock as it is a 3+3+2 phase design - it will work fine but there are better boards with better VRM sections especially if you are spending £125 or a bit more. The MSI is a 6+1 and the Asus is a 6+2.

you got it the wrong way around, asus is 6+1, MSI is 6+2.
The MSI one has 6x50A while the asus has 6x40A, Asrock is not as good as them I agree, pricing the same as the MSI making it pretty much not worth it.
