Just spotted a car which is a Petrol FFV.. having heard nothing about these and doing some more research I believe these are powered by petrol and can also be powered by E85 bio-ethanol.

What's the deal with these cars? I've read that the whole E85 thing has been pretty much been given up but is it still ok to get a car with this feature? Not anymore likely to break down or go wrong if I just keep feeding it petrol than if it was a normal petrol etc.?

It's not a hybrid. It's just tuned to be able to use E85. It will make no difference in the UK as you will just stick normal petrol in it.

Have seen E85 for sale at a few stations in Europe but never in the UK. Even abroad it was hardly common. E10 however was very popular, several pence cheaper then standard unleaded and worked fine in my cars - don't know why we don't have it here.

E85 never really took off in the UK as very few cars were available that ran on it. Morrisons stocked it but then had to resort to locking the pumps to stop people thinking they could save money by filling standard cars with it.

E10 is available in the UK but there is no requirement for pumps to carry large labels listing the ethanol content. It does also have issues with cars made before 2002 and some direct injection vehicles up to 2009.
