S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dead!

Let's face it, even if by some miracle it ever did get released it would probably pale into insignificance against other FPS's, the techology behind it (by now) is probably older and nowhere near as innovative as Half Life 2 or Doom 3 was.

Was looking at some of the screenies recently and to be honest it doesnt look that ground breaking anymore. I suspect the big lure will be the game play ofc. Shame really lets hope its not some rush job that just ends up bombing

Come on guys graphics arn't all that!

Gameplay is what counts. Personally I'm looking forward to all that exploring on a free form map!

My greatest hope is that the damage model is fairly realistic, a bit like Far Cry or Deus Ex where enemys don't need 10 bullets to go down!

That's what I would have thought, why is it taking so long anyway? Is it because these games have come out they keep trying to implement something different?

I really really hope they dont decide to put DX10 in, just get the game out on DX9, that will be fine :)
my understanding was that they had already finished the game, and were now working on beta testing/ cutscenes all the odds and ends etc.
i dont understand much about the making of the game but would implementing DX10 now not mean a huge redesign? to be honest i severly doubt they'd bother.

i'm really looking forward to this game, chernobyl itself is something that really intrests me, it just captures the imagination so well, the unseen danger, the unknown, i reckon this is why this game appeals to so many people.
it always seemed to me like such a massive project, so many features and so much depth, i just hope it delivers what it promises, hell i just hope it makes it to the shelves.

the offical sites debunking of the rumours has kinda reassuring, but when things like this go around, far too often there is at least some underlying truth there, just hope its not the case here.

well, I'm not giving up all hope, I've had it on preorder for a little shy of 2 years now, and I damned well want to play it.

I'm really confused as to what is going on with it though as I've seen videos of ingame action from 2003, so there is obviously a lot of working code behind the scenes, just isn't tied together perhaps.

I always thought it was an overly grandiose project, but its something I really got captivated by.

Me too, I have had mine on pre-order as well since 02/04/2004, and a 17.99 its still a bargain. So until the company who I have ordered it with takes it off their list there is still hope :)

Fairly standard in this industry I think. A chap I knew from uni worked on a scripting language for Far Cry, but once his work was done he left Crytek prior to release. Nowadays he's lecturing on game design in Texas :)

Not standard at all unless they were on a contract. The art usually moves onto the next project with concepting etc..
