I'm trying to connect my camcorder through s-video to my connect 3d radeon x1900XT graphics card. All i get when i capture the video is the movie but no sound. Can someone help me out here? This is a pc which i built by the way and i have onboard sound which works. So might be missing a connection somewhere?

as far as i can remember is that s-video doesnt put out sound. you'll need a seperate lead for the audio signal.

The camcorder only has S-video out and AV out. How would i connect it up to get sound out?

S-video is JUST video. you will need to go from the audio out on the camcorder (which it will have) into the LineIn on your computer. ensuring that LineIn isn't muted in control panel it will just work.

I can onyl find AV out and S-video out on the camcorder? Any suggestions it does not have line out i looked everywhere?

i believe you need a cable to go from the AV out into the LineIn of the computer. However, i'm not sure what type of photo... perhaps try taking a photo of the av on the camcorder and someone on here can tell you what sort of cable you need.

The AV out is sorta like a headphone socket on an mp3 player and the lead that comes with it is one that plugs into that and goes to one yellow video phono and one black audio phono. What lead do i need sorry i can't take a picture.

Does it have a phones output ?? .If it has this will do .What conection does it have for A/V out ?? phonos or 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack plug .

trying connection with s-video to your graphics card and use the av cable to connect the phono to line in. leaving the yellow connector unused

Does the camcorder have a make/model number. Sounds to me like you just need a £2 phono to 3.5mm adapter though.

Yeah i plugged a jack into the AV out and the other end into line in but now sound comes out but there is a wierd hissing noise in the background. Any suggestions?

Try double clicking on your volume control, turn down any inputs other than the one for the sound you want.

If your using the 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack plug in the out A/V connector of the camcorder with the other jack plug going into the sound card [line in ] your carrying the video signal too .You dont want to do that !! .You'll have to separate the signals. You only want sound .If you use a cable thats specific for this ie, a jackplug on one end and phonos on the other ,use the sound phonos .ie normally coloured red or black .Theres adapters to fit onto the phonos that take it back to a jackplug for your soundcard ,this time it will only be audio. Does all this make any sense ???

Your post 8 tells me your already have the cable. The majority of cables I have that came with my cameras/mp3 players and the like are 3.5mm jack plug with either red & black phonos on the end or white and yellow phonos. These do work as I have tried them but only gives me mono sound.I notice the correct type of cable for my camcorder [Panasonic] has a 3.5mm plug with three phonos , Yellow for Video ,White for Left Audio & Red for Right Audio and the plug will have four chrome stripes on the end .The mono one will have only three.Theres lots of adapters that will connect your cabling to a specific device .I use a Y connector to connect my two audio phonos into a 3.5mm plug for my sound card .What make of camcorder do you have ?

Its a sony ccd-tr728e. I have phonos on the end of the av cable but they do not fit in the line in on the computer. They fit but not snugly. They do not go all the way in.

That's because they're phono plugs and you're pushing them into 3.5mm stereo socket. You need a £2 adapter from an electronics store.
