OEM tied to motherboard....

NO

Not for me anyhows...

since i have been building PC's (over 10 years now), I have allways bought OEM..

This current vista ultimate oem I have has been used on 5 total different builds with no problem...

all old builds were sold with no OS and have allways used the same copy of oem windows on my new builds..

Win XP Pro being the worst as if new build was within six months I would have to call to get it activaited..

I keep hearing that OEM is tied to one build.. thats just BS tbh..

:)

Legally standing it's tied to one motherboard/system, although Microsoft aren't going to sue you. One more windows installation is one less linux installation/mac.

They can't actually stop you from installing an OEM copy on to another system. I should know, I just did it - installed OEM XP I had lying around to my new rig so I could burn a W7 installation disk, because my laptop won't burn DVDs. The disk can't magically detect when it's being installed in a different system, unless MS decided to build in a system to burn to the CD/DVD when it is used for an install. But this wouldn't work because not all drives can burn.

I do believe, however, that if you try to reinstall an OEM copy on the same system with a new motherboard, something saved in your HDD will stop you. Can't attest to this though.

The idea of OEM (original equipment manufacturers) is for manufacturers to supply a cheaper OS with a pre-built systems. The idea of retail is for average joe to go to the shops and buy to install on all his current systems.

What a tit. I particularly laughed at this:

It hides in space within exe files

Does he think that EXE files have alleyways and dark corners where a virus can hide, waiting to pounce?

You would think one of the first things he would say is where he downloaded the infected video drivers....

No it is not, you are breaking the license agreement and are no more legal than any pirate that downloaded a cracked copy of windows. If you are going to comment get your facts right.
