About 6 months ago I rooted my Galaxy S2, and now I have just attempted to update it via Kies to get ICS, which I am now having problems with. From looking on Google, I have to restore my phone to the stock rom and kernel before kies will let me update - and I have no idea what the stock rom or kernel is.

I have the GT-I9100 on o2, Android version 2.3.3, Baseband version I9100XXKE4. Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 root@DELL103#2, Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKE7

Can any of you kind souls point me in the right direction in which rom and kernel I need?

Basically I want to completely update my phone, and I guess installing a ROM is just installing a ROM and not updating it..?
As for the xda developers link, I've looked on there, if I install 'O2U (Uk (o2)) - I9100XWKJ1 - N/A - 2.3.5 - 14.11.2011 - 24-10-2011', will that then return it to the original state or do I need to replace the kernel aswell?

In that case I'd recommend purchasing ROM Manager from the Play store.

Open that and click download ROM Select CM9 Nightly and pick the latest ROM Update-07-05-2012, tick download and select Google Apps as well.

It is highly recommended you that you wipe data as well. (Make sure you back up any data as it will factory reset your phone)

That ROM is Android 4.0.4 the very latest from Google.

Cheers for the help mate. In the process of downloading CM9 through Rom Manager.

I guess I wipe data once the ROM is installed?

Yes once the ROM is downloaded it will prompt you:

Yes - Tick Wipe Data and Cache and also make sure Wipe Dalvik Cache is also ticked.

You can Backup your old ROM if you want to go back.

Downloaded the CM9, my phone reboots to install, then I get the message 'E:failed to verify whole-file signature', and 'E:signature verification failed' which in turns fails the installation.

I will punch it into google and see if I have any luck.

Possible bad download then.

Open Rom Manager and clear download cache and try downloading it again.

If it fails again you can try a manual download:

http://tinyw.in/Ko5N Size: 49.64 MB
MD5: 7c524e1e078164f681e0aa6753180b2c

Create folder on Internal SD card called ROMs

Place these 2 files in there, open Rom Manager and click reboot into recovery.

Install ZIP from SD Card, choose ZIP. Locate the Update File 1st
Repeat this for the GApps file
Click the Back button to return to the main menu.

Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Advanced and davlink as well

reboot

It seems like the problem is Rom Manager. When I reboot into recovery I get those error messages, without even trying to install zip from sd card. I reinstalled Rom Manager but still get the same error. Seems like it's not meant to be !

ROM Manager recovery is a fake one so switch off your phone then power on with

VOL UP & HOME & Power button.

Then repeat the installation.

Thought that was going to work then .. found the update file via install zip from sd card, then got the following messages

"appling multi-csc" actually said appling and not applying?
"installing multi-csc
can't access to '/system/csc/02u/system/'
successfully applied multi-csc' - and this is the first time i have seen these messages..

then I get the usual failed to verify messages. I don't understand the problem. :S

What files have you downloaded? CM9 or the O2 ROM?

To debrand it then:

Download Odin if you havent already: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=rEf5a-AR5FTj1U4kL-zexA

Using the noob-proof ODIN method:
- Download CM9 Resurrection Edition
- Download GApps and put it onto your internal sdcard
- Open Odin
- Choose cm-9-XXXXXXXX-ODIN-galaxys2.tar.md5 as PDA
- Boot your phone into download mode
- Connect your device via usb to your computer
- Wait till Odin has fully recognized your phone
- Hit the start button and wait till the flash process is finished
- Device boots automatically into recovery
- Flash GApps, wipe cache and dalvik-cache
- Reboot into CM9
- Follow above steps to update CM9 to lastest available version (Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9)

CM9 Resurrection Edition for use with Odin:
20120420: Download

Odin can be very dangerous so use at your own risk!!! Could brick your phone!!!
