S2000 / VX220 Turbo / Impreza WRX STi

Like, the yellow here looks awful? Or is it a different shade?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306278997930

It could be the same, the camera/settings used in that one has very very low contrast, or a very wide dynamic range which makes it look far more muted.. the other one has quite high contrast photos, and might be slightly over egging the 'pop' a bit..

Deffo go and see one in the flesh, cameras can really make certain colours look pants..

A quick google suggests there's a few different yellows available, some solid, some pearlescent...

Solids:
Yellow Solid - 40C/2PU - M3441
Brilliant Yellow - 4HU - P4512

Pearlescents:
Capri Yellow Effect - 4GU - M3440
Brilliant Yellow Effect - 4LU - P4823

Friggin 'ell that's a lot of yellows for a car that was such a limited run!

@kinger8938 - Check out the review from Classic and Sports car, the very car and put up against the S2000! (click on the left arrow on the image and go to page/image 45!).

If the VX220T is as well looked after as it suggests, it's almost crazy not to go and see it and see if it suits..

I'm very wary of just about any ~20 year old car for 1 reason - rust. Unless they've been restored and/or garaged most or all of their entire low mileage life, there will be rust or soon will be. Out of the 3 OP has mentioned I'd go for the Impreza. Owned several back in the day, loved them. The VX220 and s2000 look to be very interesting too but personally I'd not consider them because they'd probably be too impractical for me.

Awesome! Thanks just had a read. Wonder when the article was written. The Ad does say it's part of a private collection, id be worried it's been sat unused for ages?

Article mentions it's at 28k miles, which is essentially the same as the ad suggests

It is a garage queen so issues might pop up if you started using it properly. If they aren't using it regularly.

The VX220s are still good value tbh. An Elise in that condition would probably be 10k more.

Yeah it looks really nice, part of me would feel bad to buy one like that then use it everyday :D

I have sent an email enquiring about it anyway, we will see.

Interesting information in that review:

"“It had various issues so Vauxhall took it back to Luton and rebuilt it,” says Ian. “I sold it in 2012 then bought it back in 2018 – the only time I’ve ever done that. I missed it – there really is nothing like this out there, and I knew this was a good one. It’s a lovely bit of kit."

Yeah, total garage queen, but if it sounds sweet and has been stored / looked after correctly then it should be good.. it might have missed all the usual subframe rotting issues and I suspect you can't lose much money at all.. much more chance of it at least staying stable over time as you put the miles on, or go up in value a bit!

Yeah the line about it being rebuilt was a bit weird. Wonder what that refers to

They weren't built in Luton either. They came from the Lotus factory in Hethel.

The engine is GM/Vauxhall though, so maybe that was rebuilt.

Also, servicing them.. don't take it to Vauxhall. They need to go to someone who knows what they are doing with Lotuses, even for an MOT. You can't just do things like jam a pry bar in to the wishbone mounts and start tugging.

This one looks good, but the mileage is really high (for me)

Are the 2000 Turbo models worth it against a WRX/Sti?

Must admit I get a bit confused by all the models especially with the late 90s-2000s cars.

This ad has little to no info so probably no good.

But then 100k on a car that's 24 years old isn't madness I guess. As long as servicing etc is tip top.

But then a cracking 220 pops up, this one looks great. Wasn't overly sure on the yellow but this example looks clean

Some I've seen, they kind of look greenish hard to explain.

Still torn on what to go for

My dad owned this car

He bought it off the first 'owner' (who bought it off Vauxhall after press duties were done) - and sold it back to said first owner for £17.5k after a few years. Not sure if that's who's now selling it again but they've not lost anything!

It was immaculate when it left him with 25k miles on it in 2017, always went to specialists for an annual service and was only taxed 6 months a year so no winter running. If it's been housed well and looked after for the last 3k it's probably one of the best out there.

I suspect that could well cost another £0 in depreciation for a few years of ownership...

Wow that's interesting! Nice to hear a bit of extra history :)

It did mention in the article that he sold it, then rebought it from that buyer a few years later so that must have been it

Thanks for the info.

I did email about it, no reply last week, tried again this week and he said it's still available etc. asked some questions and haven't heard back.

Still not sure if it's a bit too impractical for me but I do love them

There is no depreciation on these or Elises now. They are all going up, even well used ones.

I had my Elise valued at the end of last year and it's gone up a few grand, even though I've put 15k miles on it since buying it (just before lockdown).

The add has gone. Are you still considering an Impreza?

If you're looking at the older GC8s (Turbo 2000) then I think the money is going to be in bone stock examples. There were quite a few differences between the UK cars and the JDM examples and again stock is the way to go if you're looking to avoid depreciation. Given the JDM models are considered "better" they're always going to be a bit more than UK cars, now and in the future.

Which example thats fits the bill for you will largely depend on budget and what you want to use it for.

Ahh right you are, didn't last long!

There is a 2000 Turbo "Terzo?" Edition local. £12-13k with 60k miles but these look very basic/dated now. Not many of those produced from what I understand
