S2000 woes :(

The problem is that the Engine drive a oil pump in the gearbox. If you tow it the Diff makes the gearbox move but with no oil.

Nah, Rover LT77 RWD box does the same - splash lubrication isn't enough to reach all the shafts and gear clusters and so it has a small input-driven pump that supplies the top of the box.

Tow one and it soon burns itself up.

I didn't know that S2000s used a similar principle (thought it would have long gone by now) so will bear that in mind!

Autoboxes usually can be towed for about 5 miles at under 30mph in emergency situations but that's it. Ideally not at all.

Getting the driven wheels off the ground is a dead easy solution :D

Got a mate who's been a mechanic for about 25 years and swears that running it in is load of tosh.

Trash it from day 1 he says and it'll be better for it !

Mind you he's more of a digger/tractor mechanic so maybe they're a bit more forgiving than an S2000 :)

Someone posted an interesting link about running in. Basically did several tests 1 with running in and one not and the one that wasn't run in looked a lot better when they took it apart.
