Hi Guys

Got an issue with my phone at the moment.

has been happening for the past few weeks but has become far worse the past few days.
since turning on today it has restarted 7+ times.

phone is constantly freezing and needs to be restsarted
phone randomly restarts throughout the day
last few nights on charge the phone has frozen or turned off.
the phone needs to be restarted multiple times sometimes as it cannot proceed past initial lock screen.

I have tried the following:
Flashed back to stock rom & unrooted the device
swapped battery to a new one
removed 32gb sd card

any ideas before I start thinking about sending it back?

Sounds like the sudden death issue is kicking in.......

Have you got the very latest stock ROM on? If yes, factory reset and if you still have the problems then I would send it of for repair.

the rom i have is:

4.1.2
I9300BUELL1
build
JZO54K.I9300XXELLA

Going to back up now and give factory reset a go.

My Note 2 also randomly started freezing/restarting. A few weeks later it just died, wouldn't switch on at all.

This certainly sounds like the sudden death issue that's affected lots of them (including mine).

As above, factory reset it and see what it's like after that.

If it still has the issue and you got it as an upgrade from a network take it into a high street store and discuss options with them otherwise be prepared for the worst customer service experience you are ever likely to encounter.

I made the mistake of ringing my network who arranged for it to be picked up and was then sent to the Samsung repair place of choice A-Novo.

3 weeks later the network contacted me to say this repair was not covered under warranty because of 'water ingress'. The handset had not even been out in the rain let alone submerged in water so rage ensued!

Anyhow several weeks later and after some brilliant customer service from an EE high street store I got a replacement.

A-Novo are cowboy's at best and I will never buy another Samsung phone when I've done with this one.

Just remembered all the horror stories with Samsung's service :p :o So don't send it of to Samsung!

If the factory reset doesn't fix the problem, do what mancubus said instead.

I am aware of this sadly. Ace Modder sits next to me at work and his S2 died last year. they did the same story on him. 'water damage' etc. I will claim for failure on my phone insurance if it comes down to it. that's what its there for right?

I got it via phones 4u on vodafone [who are terrible]

so should i take it to a voda or a p4u shop?

anyone able to explain to me what causes the sudden death issue. trying to read up on it but info seems to conflict.

just so i know what i am looking out for?

Oh dear, not you as well.

All I can say is, after 7 weeks I have finally received my replacement Note 2 AND I've still got the repaired handset :p Samsung are contacting me everyday to arrange collection of it. **** you Samsung, have a taste of your own medicine. :)

Take it to P4U and if you don't get any joy with them "cough 'lose it' cough". Do not let them send it off to Samsung repair, it will be 4-6 weeks minimum before you get anything back and you may end up in a fight with Anovo trying to claim repair costs.

I actually don't know either and if this one dies I'll be ringing my bank not the network or Samsung to tell them 'I've lost my phone'. £25 excess is a small price to pay for having it sorted in a couple of days.

Good to hear, just keep showing the appropriate finger!

no idea about vodafone.

Have read mixed reports on P4u shop.

I would try P4u first and see what they can do, if their proposal doesn't sound good to you then try vodafone and see.

Just make sure they don't take it and send it to Samsung.

From what I can gather, it is to do with the flash memory becoming corrupted/failing, possibly something to do with the write speeds......

I don't think anyone knows exactly what the problem is and how it comes about.

Originally people thought it was something to do with the motherboard.

It is probably much like the crucial M4 and the sudden death issue once users hit a certain time period iirc 5000 hours but was fixed with the 000F firmware iirc.

edit:

Here is a detailed post about the sudden death issue/lag:
