Saddam Hussein may face execution within hours

Beneath his uncaring fascade, I bet he's bricking it.

We shall see what happens...

Isn't his trial for genocide of the Kurds still ongoing though?

He's just been given the death penalty for killing 150 people in a village where someone tried to kill him iirc.

So - why not wait for the second result to be in before stringing him up?

Shame :(

Shouldn't happen this way

What do you mean?

If you mean what I think you mean, I agree. In so many ways it would be better for him to serve a long term sentence in jail until the day he dies, but that was never going to happen.

It's wrong in so many ways, but right in others it's hard to not sit on the fence about the situation.

Hi Saddam

The death penalty doesn’t solve anything or fix what was broken. It does the exact opposite – it takes us a step closer to barbarism.

The new Iraqi government want him out of the way as soon as possible to stop his "martyr" image becoming any bigger than it already is (although killing him will possibly aggravate this) - also, under Iraqi law once the appeal process has been seen to the prisoner must be executed within 30 days.
