Now that Apple has released Safari for windows (beta), has anyone else tried it with Vista? And are they having problems?

When I use it, text in the browser is really blurry for some reason - I have IE7 and Safari open side by side and looking at Safari makes me think I need to wear spectacles!

It looks bold on mine, it's ok, i suppose, nothing special, OcUK Homepage took aggges to load, so I have no idea about the "1.6x faster than firefox" quote.

I have Vista HP 32bit, no probs yet. It passes the acid 2 test

comparison with firefox screenie

Everything looks okay at the moment on Windows XP.

The only thing I had to get used to was the way it organised the bookmarks. Other than that it seems to be fast enough and stable. Oh and the extra mouse buttons/smooth scrolling don't seem to be supported yet or proxies as it's greyed out for me.

There is a big difference on the amount of AA windows and os x use. You get used to it. I prefer os x now.

font blurryness can be semi cured in preferences under the font smoothing setting in appearance. I set mine to light and it seemed to cure most of the font issues.

But I went back to firefox (which has had its font changed!) because it was a damn site quicker than safari, but I do have fasterfox installed.

Going off-tipoc but I've just noticed that after a clean install too. How do we get it to look like it used to?

i saw that on the bbc site. for that reason alone i'm not going to try it. i mean come on, they surely don't expect people to believe this crap.... :p

Jobbs claimed it was 1.6x faster than firefox, so considering Opera is significantly faster than firefox at rendering content, and taking into account the fact that the test conditions would be somewhat biased, ie they were running on osx, I think we can agree Safari is slower than Opera, and possibly equal to Firefox.

it's all crap. the webserver serving the content and the connection are always going to be limiting factors. i couldn't care less if browser x is faster than browser y - you're never going to notice anyway. :)

Strange how I noticed Opera is much faster than ie instantly.....

And yes I timed it, so no it's not a placebo effect.

ok so i generalised. i guess there are users who will notice the difference. i'm not one of them. :)

besides, features are what browsers are all about. opera might well be faster than firefox but i can't live without my extensions. :p and i believe opera has certain features better than firefox so again people choose opera for that. i guess safari won't be taking users away from these 2 browsers but are going after the windows/internet explorer/ipod users.

ditto

plus firefox has many speed tweaks that can make it kick butt

That because it comes from the same company which ran the "fastest computer in the world" advert (or something like that), they lie!

You guys are just jealous that Apple release all the cool stuff :D

I've actually found it to be extremely fast, and I mean fast, at loading up from clicking the icon, under a second. Rendering, I find it about the same as Opera if not a little quicker at slapping everything onto the page.

Still, when some extensions are installed etc I'd love to see how it loads :D
