Safari vs Firefox vs IE?

My goodness. I hadn't even thought about opera.

But, hang on... is there any reason to?

Definitely, I moved from IE, to Firefox years ago, when I didn't like Opera that much, Then I tried it a while ago and its all I use now. Make sure you spend a while with it though, just to appreciate it a little bit more.

It used to be the case that it was the fastest, and I think for a while it really was. I moved from IE->FF->Opera.

However Chrome (and Iron) came out and kick its ass for speed now. I think Safari is now quicker too.

Opera doesn't have the community that FF has, and as such there are fewer of everything e.g. skins etc.

The other issue is that more often than not web designers don't bother testing with Opera, and it often shows. Lots of pages sometimes don't load properly / with full functionality, or even occasionally refuse to load as it doesn't recognise or "accept" the browser. There is a handy "Open with xx.." in the right click menu on Opera though; Opera kind of acknowledges there is a problem.

Another slight annoyance is the lack of options during setup. A lot of people here including myself would like more questions during installation, so as to remove any bloat or features that are unused e.g. the bit torrent part.

There are a few handy things in it (not sure if these are available with FF, probably is through add ons) like the notes section.

Opera overall isn't a bad browser, it's still good enough to warrant me to still use it. It was (and probably is) still one of the best for new ideas. Things like sessions and tabs started off in Opera if memory serves correct.

shouldn't Google Chrome be in the title too? :)

For me Internet Explorer is the bottom of the pile, Firefox at the top and Google Chrome is it's impressionable little brother.

I love my firefox :)

 HOW DO YOU CHANGE COLOUR

what reports did you see about chrome as I was going to give it a go

I like safari and firefox. I perfer firefox due to all the addons were as safari is nice and quick and as normal for apple looks nice

Always assumed Opera was for browser snobs, but then decided to try it about a month go. Personally finding it much faster than safari and FF. Not missing any of the FF plugins as everything I need seems to be baked in. Absolutely loving it at the moment.

Firefox (part of Mozilla) is the open source version of Netscape. Being a Netscape kid myself, I've been following Mozilla since 2002. Stayed with the Mozilla releases from 2002-6, skipped Firefox 1, then jumped straight to Firefox 2.

@ Khaaan! - how did you make your Firefox look crossover FF/Chrome?

I use Opera at home, and FF at work. At work I need some of the plugins for web dev and stuff so that is why FF gets preference.
There are a couple of things I like about Opera as standard that FF may have with add-ons and that is the speed dial, which is good if you often open a new tab and go to the same site, and the "paste and go" option, which is great for download links in plain text, and saves that extra key press.

Firfox 3.6 ATM,did use chrome for around a year but the recent versions have suffered from hangs and crashes for me since chrome 3.1 was released.

I don't really feel a speed difference but then again im on a t-mobile dongle so any delay in loading webpages will always be my network first and foremost. If you had a good virgin cable connection then maybe you would appreciate the speed of chrome more.

Out of all the browsers on all the platforms I've used the only thing that tells me one is faster than the other is benchmarks. If you look at the graphs you'd expect IE to be an absolute slug, which it clearly isn't.
