Safe Mode

Often have trouble starting in Safe Mode using the F8 key - sometimes it works more often it doesn't. Is there any other way of starting in safe mode??
OS is XP Pro.

Start > Run > msconfig > BOOT.INI Tab > Check the /SAFEBOOT box.

If you cant get to the above because its broke hence why you want to get in it, when it starts loading windows, ie when you see the logo with the blue bar going from left to right underneath it, hit reboot then on your pc, when it restarts it will automatically ask you if you want safe made........just dont do that trick too often.

Heard this can cause problems?? Is it possible to make a start up CD that will boot in safe mode?

just wait until the first bios screen goes away, then hammer F8

Safemode dosent just break, if it does there is a serious problem requiring a re-install (quickest option, I wouldent even attempt to repair) of windows or some h/w diags.

I would say either F8 is recognized by your BIOS for something else, if so continue and keep hitting F8... i.e boot list - select HDD), your not tapping it at the right time, maybe tap fater to catch it, or your have a dogey F8 key (try different keyboard).

The above refers to not seeing the Safe Mode etc menu at all. If it tries to boot into safe mode and has a problem. This is a different matter altogether.
